Yeh looking at all the movements today it looks like we are really on the up...cant imagine even Newcastle has been as busy today.

Maybe the new management structure is starting to work..you doubting Thomas's !!

What with all that development and new lighting(all we need are some bulbs now?) the airport can only be on the up?

How about BMI pull out and Lufthansa taking over internal flights? Probably also Munich and Frankfurt direct..i have it on good authority that marketing are working on a nice little project..watch this space..:cool:

Just to put this in context, a quick look at the NIA website shows that there are 20 departures between 05.45 and 08.15 tomorrow morning at NCL.

Would imagine it was pretty similar this morning...

Probably one of the funniest and most dillusional things I've read on here for a long time ! Sorry Bartrams. You'll be lucky if there's an airport there at all after the Summer, especially with the lack of management and commercial skills the airport has to offer.

I would keep an eye on the Globespan thread, someone saying that MME will become a summer only base.

I presume your comment was 'tongue in cheek' as I otherwise I can't imagine anyone so stupid ! As it happens NCL yesterday exceeded DTV on commercial movements by a factor somewhere between 3 & 4 irrespective of the average size of aircraft also being larger.
The point I would like to make is that the comment you made is unfortunately typical of the rhetoric that emanates from the DTV PR machine, in having very little positive to promote, then items are at times taken way out of context to provide a totally inaccurate picture. Just as accurate a comment to make would be that movements at DTV returned the next day to a more realistic level of c.50% of that quoted.

Hmmm wonder if GSM's 'apparent' lack to date to commit to W08 was a factor in DTV issuing the earlier writ against BMI ? after all revenue has to be derived from somewhere. Desperate times require desperate measures......:confused:

Now I know this is a rumour network, but what possible evidence is there that TNT will pull out? It's a typical "doom monger" statement that has typified this thread...mostly by those at other regional airports desperate to plot the demise of DTV and their employees.

Strange! TNT are supposidly going to build a new hanger, cargo centre and offices. The plans are on the office wall.

There must be something about the Teesside International Airport 's marketing that doesnt appeal to me, and I dont think I'm alone in this. I live close to Teesside International but almost never use it. (I refuse to call it Durham Tees Valley not only for nostalgia but also it is a logistical nightmare getting to Durham from Teesside International unless you go by road - forget it by public transport) The Heathrow flight is really outclassed by a decent train service from Darlington, only about 7 miles away. If I want to go to London I can do it easier by train, both in time and effort.

I am primarily a user of the low cost airlines of which only Wizz appears to operate from TIA. Poland may be a nice place but I dont think it can compare to my last two desinations of Prague and Pisa. I use the websites to search for flights and have BMI, Easyjet and Ryanair on my favourites. When I want a short break away I just look for flights to places that take my fancy and work around what is available from any of the airports within a reasonable distance from me. The furthest south I would use would probably be EMA. This means that EMA, Doncaster, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle are accessible and solely because of the train links, Manchester is convenient too. This leaves me with lots of options but TIA hardly ever matche smy needs. If I need long haul then TIA is convenient for Schipol but otherwise TIA is a long strip of concrete that I go past on my way to another airport.

And i Dont suppos London heathrow was as busy as newcastle :oh:

but nobody was comparing Newcastle and Heathrow. Somebody got a little over-excited and made a slightly outrageous comparison, so not surprising they got corrected.

On a plus note - AEA145 from Palma this afternoon is the same flight number and timings as the flight which went into NCL in previous years, so is this a steal?

New director Kerry Quinn is spearheading expansion plans that are geared to boosting annual passenger numbers from 750,000 to three million by 2015. She said: “We know what we are up against but our airlines give us access to a range of markets including business, charter and leisure. We are looking to increase our volume of domestic schedule services to Heathrow, which gives us access to destinations across the globe.”

Kerry is adamant the airport is not in direct competition with its counterpart 35 miles up the A1. “We firmly believe that there’s enough room in the North-east for two airports,” she said defiantly. “We’re not in competition with Newcastle, even though our catchment areas overlap. “There’s a feeling sometimes that two similar developments in the same area will take business off each other but I believe that growth breeds growth. We have to realise that developments can complement each other and create extra opportunities.”

Parcel carrier TNT has realised the potential of the airport and is opening a new on-site depot to be up and running by the end of next year - a move that will create extra capacity at the company’s busy Durham depot. Campbell Ferrier, general manager for the Teesside and Durham depots, believes the airport’s plans to increase freight capacity may open up opportunities for other logistics companies. He said: “Excellent road links to the north and south of the airport make it easier for companies to ship goods in and out of the region.”

The airport is hoping to generate additional revenues by increasing the range of flights operated by existing airlines in and out of Teesside, and Peel Airports remains opened-minded about a possible bid for one of London’s gateways if a Competition Commission ruling forces BAA to break up its UK portfolio. If this were to happen, it could significantly strengthen current links with Heathrow - a destination Durham Tees has earmarked as a gateway to the global aviation market.

Contrary to everything else I've read, they seem to be putting great store by increased links to Heathrow - do they know something we don't??
