Smoking Airline

A Germen business man wants to run a smoking airline.

Is there not something in the EU directives that outlawed smoking to start with? I can imagine that wealthy Japanese travellers may pay for this but surely the popularity of smoking in Europe is declining? (not having a go at smokers at all, so don`t start)!!!! :E

I am particularly struck by the website copy:

The only thing there's left to do for the classic SMINTAIR passenger is, to just sit back and relax. SMINTAIR's highly trained staff will be glad to service you.

There's also

Non-smokers will find the cabin air more refreshing than on any other flight with any other airline, as SMINTAIR adds fresh outside air to the conditioning system!
Given the choice of a non-smoking "conventional" flight, or a flight surrounded by smokers but with a little less recirculated air, I know which I'd choose, and it ain't these guys...

Smintair new startup SMOKERS airline!

just saw the announcment on CNBC !

1 route DUS-NRT
2 747's
startup 26 th march 2007

I doubt if this will work :uhoh:

some interesting quotes from their website ( www.smintair.com)

"Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Guests,

Before I would like to share my next to 50 years of experience as an airline passenger with you, I'd like to take the opportunity to clear one of the biggest lies floating around everywhere in the World:
"Second Hand Smoke (SHS, a.k.a. ETS, Environmental Tobacco Smoke) damages your health".
The WHO (World Health Orgaisation) confirms in all of it's studies concerning the subject, that ETS has not even a statistcally relevant effect on the non-smoker's health! If you want to go deeper into the subject, without prejudice, please refer to following link: http://www.antibrains.com/shs.html. "

"Allowing our guests to smoke is one of the freedoms we are happily prepared to grant. Non-smokers will find the cabin air more refreshing than on any other flight with any other airline, as SMINTAIR adds fresh outside air to the conditioning system! This is more expensive, as it burns more fuel, but it is seen as an additional service to our guests.

As the World's first smoker's airline, SMINTAIR is entering many uncovered niches in aviation, designed to give the traveller maximum pleasure out of their flight experience. SMINTAIR spends more than three times the amount usually invested on passenger's nourishment. Signature recipes created by internationally renowned chefs will make each meal a feast. Charming and beautiful flight attendants in uniforms designed by famous couturiers are there to take the very best care of you. Every two years, a new designer will be elected to keep the uniform design á la mode. SMINTAIR is currently in motion to aquire sponsors offering luxurious merchandise. Everything from caviar to clothes and smoker's utensils to jewellery will be offered for free consumption or at special duty free prices during our flights. Main sponsors will also be able to host events aboard our aircraft, displaying their latest fashion or merchandise, thus taking SMINTAIR in-flight entertainment and service to new levels. "

On the negative side though, just think of all those sticky nicotine covered components that will have to be changed.:)

bafanguy 7th Jul 2006 22:11

Yep...this'll really work. Where can I invest my retirement savings ?

If the proposed airline with the topless FA's didn't work in the USA, this smoker thing is freakin' DOOMED.

cwatters 7th Jul 2006 22:20

Will the cabin crew contracts include any interesting clauses I wonder?

con-pilot 7th Jul 2006 22:26

Is the "Governor" out of prison?:uhoh:

PAXboy 7th Jul 2006 22:59

Anyone who starts an airline to provide a niche this small is certifiable. This has to be a 'spam', website and all.:p Don't forget that 'SMINT' is the name of a breath freshner.

This has got to be a joke, just read the 'investors' section on the website.

Vmike 7th Jul 2006 23:22

Well personally I hope it does work. I'm an ex-smoker but I still would like to see this work. Smoking is still legal, for the moment at least, no matter what the anti-smoking/health and safety nazis would have you believe. Some people still enjoy it. If you don't smoke, don't fly or work with with them but don't try to close them down just because you don't enjoy the same things they do.

It's another airline offering jobs to pilots. Wish them luck for God's sake and get on with your life.:ok:

Koyo 8th Jul 2006 00:04

The idea itself is not bad. There are smokers out there that won't last long without a drag. (I recall this crazy lady on the news who rather take the insane interest charges on her credit card than pay the new tax on tobaco). However, the way they disputed the effects of Second Hand Smoking made them look like idiots. If the goal is to attract employees and investors, I think they should of used a better arguement. Personally, that statement alone would be enough for me to question the creditbility of the organizer. At least say you are doing this to target the hardcore smokers market. While I don't understand how exactly the use of fresh air in the cabin increase fuel consumption, would there be enough passenagers who are willing to pay an increased ticket price?

Anti-ice 8th Jul 2006 00:15

Ironic they have chosen a name normally associated with fresh breath that will now be associated in the air with yuk breath :}

Perhaps Smint mints will be v unhappy with this choice/sue

Wind-up Alert

I think a timely reminder is necessary for this topic :-

As these are anonymous forums the origins of the contributions may be opposite to what may be apparent. In fact the press may use it, or the unscrupulous, to elicit certain reactions.

Bahn-Jeaux 8th Jul 2006 07:13

If you were an investor, would you be prepared to part with millions to a man who cannot even spell correctly.
Anyone trying to attract this sort of business should at least have a presentable website.
Spoof methinks.

Why 120 Flight Attendants and only 12 pilots???? What are they going to do with all the flight attendants? 12 pilots = 3 crews maybe? That would then mean 40 flight attendants each flight?. I don't know, i'm not a flight planner, but it does seem like some strange quotes and figures.

What ever happened to the governor with his tristars or whatever he was trying to buy? I remember around 2002 him creating a lot of hassle for the moderators here.
