Many thanks for the gracious reply. What I read into the EZY Guernsey application - is the Government there a closed shop reference competition on their key (Aurigny) routes?. If so, EZY won't waste their time. If, however, there is an avenue to start up operations there, perhaps a LGW route would be a good place for them to start. Was it six years ago in Jersey EZY launched LPL and LTN, the latter dropped after one season, I think. GLA was started up then SEN followed with NCL introduced this year. LGW now confirmed from next Spring. Slowly but surely and with little fuss they are becoming a major seat provider out of Jersey. Also there is little if any adverse comment in the media about EZY ops from their passengers or any other party. Seems to me EZY have got their brand more or less right. |
More good news - Jet2 has announced 3 weekly flights (Tu.Th.Sa.) to Manchester for summer 2014. I've been hoping to see Jet2 on this route for a while so good to see it delivered at last. :ok:
From us spotters, it means there will be 3 Jet2 aircraft on the ground at the same time on Saturday afternoons. Manchester arrives 13:45 departs14:30 Leeds Bradford arrives 14:05 departs 14:45 East Midlands arrives 14:05 departs 14:50 |
May not be quite as good news as you thought, as I have been told that Jet 2 will be dropping the Belfast route (now that EZY hve got it).

Jet2 have already announced no flights to JER or BKL for summer 14
Shame |
EZY fares
Just out of interest had a look at LGW - JER fares with EZY starting next Spring.
Seems like you can get a deal around £54 return without hold bags, with BA coming in around £68 for a similar deal. EZY Could be good for short trips/family visits/just sheer short get-aways. Any comments? |
As suggested earlier by EISNN, Dublin - Jersey is transferred to Aer Lingus Regional from April. Flights operate daily except Wednesday. Flight arrives Jersey at 13:30, departs to Dublin at 14:00.

More cuts from the airline that still uses "Jersey" as its callsign!
JER-BRS to go from 7/1/14, but of course, U2 expected to start this coming Summer. Seasonal services to NCL and LTN also to go. Wonder if U2 or SI would have another go at JER-LTN? |
Yes, you are right - the cheek of them retaining a bit of their heritage and history. Its not like they will offer many flights in to Jersey after March and during the summer months is it....
Southampton Exeter Birmingham Manchester Edinburgh Cardiff Humberside Inverness Aberdeen Durham Doncaster East Midlands Glasgow Norwich Now these may well be subject to further change, but dear me what a silly comment to make. :ugh:  |
With Flybe not operating the Jet into Jersey this summer and then continuing onto Palma , Malaga and Mahon on a Saturday as a charter has left Fly Direct which chartered the plane a gap to find a new suitable aircraft
They will now operate 21 flights throughout the summer from Jersey only to Palma on a Wednesday using Volotea B 717 aircraft ( i think a first for Jersey ) |
More cuts from the airline that still uses "Jersey" as its callsign! JER-BRS to go from 7/1/14, but of course, U2 expected to start this coming Summer. I can't see easyJet providing a daily service throughout the year which means that there would be no route at all in winter if easyJet led to Blue Islands pulling out. Much as I like easyJet, and they've done wonders for BRS, I hope they stay off the JER route which I think is better suited to the smaller aircraft currently operating it. |
They will now operate 21 flights throughout the summer from Jersey only to Palma on a Wednesday using Volotea B 717 aircraft ( i think a first for Jersey) The summer schedules are more or less finalised now. The main changes with Flybe, easyjet, Jet2 and Aer Lingus have been noted already, but one or two small things might be of interest: - Cityjet to Cardiff 5x weekly (goes on sale Monday I think?) - Easyjet 2 flights to Liverpool on Sat/Sun during the high-season. - Lufthansa appear to be operating the A319 from Dusseldorf (it’s been the 735 previously). - FlyNiki is operating the Vienna charter between May and July (passengers fly via Munich with LH for the rest of the season). - Only the Air Berlin DH4 flight from Frankfurt will route via Guernsey - Hannover and Stuttgart operate direct to Jersey this year. - There are a quite impressive number of charter flights from Denmark between 18 May and 28 September – majority are from Copenhagen but also Aalborg and Billund. Not sure which airline is operating them – Jettime? |

I think you're correct. "Hello EZY, Goodbye Blue Island" - on the Bristol service. Good, or bad ? Depends on what you want. |
Arrivals demolition decision deferred...
...move runway instead!!!!!!!!!!:D:D
BBC News - Jersey airport officials told to 'look again' at demolition plans http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...h09m34s117.jpg |
Sorry, can someone explain what the safety issue is? Is it the case there will be more diversions in future as rules have been tightened?
That building is a proper landmark, it would be a shame to lose it. |
Sorry, can someone explain what the safety issue is? Is it the case there will be more diversions in future as rules have been tightened? That building is a proper landmark, it would be a shame to lose it. As for the building being a landmark, it's been altered so significantly that apart from the facade it's not really the same building anymore. The planning ministers idea of moving the runway further north to negate the issue would require 1 road to be moved (top of Jubilee Hill), 1 to be deleted from existence (by St. Peter's school), probably 3-4 houses to be bought and demolished, have St. Peter's Church moved or demolished, have all the navigational aids and lights moved and the fire training ground moved, all of which would require further land purchase. This would all come at a great expense to the taxpayer probably to the tune of £100million or so. Is that really worth a very poor example of 30's architecture? Instead they could have the same design incorporated into a new arrivals building that doesn't leak every time it rains. |
As an ex Jersey ATCO & Watch Manager who took part in many project meetings , planning discussions & technical briefings on this subject, let me explain what I know.
First, OA32 is correct with nearly all of his explanation. However, The upper part of the 1937 building still lies within the 1:7 slope from the side of the runway. As does the steeple of St.Peter's church. In the case of the Terminal, it intersects the northern end of the building between the 2 sets of windows above the "viewing balcony" & rises 1:7 in a southerly diagonal direction until it reaches the southern end of the building at the top corner. This was never a problem until the CAA increased the safety standards (might have been in the '80s), & Jersey Airport was exempted from complying with these "new" standards because the infringement was from an existing building & plans existed for it to be demolished. When the new A taxiway was constructed it was deliberately decided to construct it with the bend in it (to avoid the '37 building). This was done despite myself & others suggesting that it should not be, because the Airport management should have taken the opportunity to comply with the CAA new standards (which they would eventually have to do, in any case). The reason that this bend in the taxiway was constructed (despite it infringing the safety area alongside the runway) was the need to accommodate a straightened taxiway by demolishing a substantial part of the new arrivals hall (which had only been built a couple of years earlier !) to allow the re-positioning of the taxiway through the apron. However, it was always the Harbour & Airport Authority & the Airport Managements' intention to straighten this taxiway & build another "new" arrivals hall in due course; & thereby comply fully with the CAA standards, eventually. This looks like what is now beginning to take place. At last ! As regards moving the runway to the North. Don't even think about it (as OA32 states)t. This is just another example of a politician talking about matters of which he has absolutely NO understanding. I worked in this asbestos ridden building for 30 years & , in that time it was never once hit by an aircraft going around in bad weather ! Nevertheless, it is now time to pull it down. |
Wife of Bath
Sounds to me this Deputy Duhamel can't take a decision and doesn't travel out of Jersey very often. Nostalgia yes, but not to the extent of halting progress. The Airport management must have their heads in their hands over this crass procrastination!
|
Thanks folks for fleshing out the details on this. Seems an even more ridiculous decision, or lack thereof. It's Jersey politics all over from what one hears :ugh:

As noted elsewhere, Flybe has acquired slots at LCY for what looks to be a 2x daily service to Jersey alongside Inverness, Belfast City, Newquay and Isle of Man. 284 movements in the season providing 22,152 seats will make it BE's second busiest service out of LCY after the BHD, and (alongside Blue Islands' service) JER the 16th most served destination out of LCY in terms of ATMs.
Also reputedly an announcement regarding a possible rebrand due next week. Interesting times ahead, it seems - but if nothing else the new regime must indeed be confident of the results of their cost-cutting. Yogi Berra once said 'The future ain't what it used to be'. Flybe back at City? I beg to differ. Airport Coordination Limited - Reports/Statistics - London City Airport (requires download, for which a false email address works) |
I know that in the previous decade the Dash 8 - 200s of British European cum Flybe went steep approach equipped into LCY and I think their - 300s at the time may have been equipped also.
However, i always understood that the Flybe Q400s were never set up with the necessary equipment for the the steep approach into LCY. Will there be a fleet upgrade? |
