The press statement says 21 flights a week will give an extra 100,000 passengers per year - now that's 1092 flights, times by two (arrival, departure), making an average of 45 per flight. Now that would be a very empty A319 or a nicely loaded Fokker (50/70?)!

pug 9th Dec 2009 20:14

That wasnt a press statement, likelyhood is they saw the origional travelmole article and adapted it after reading the forums.

Doesn't look like W-patterns from LPL at all - looks like one DSA based aircraft:

Morning rotation: DSA-PRG-DSA (days -2--5-7), DSA-FAO-DSA (days 1-34-6-)
Afternoon rotation: DSA-AMS-DSA (daily)
Evening rotation: DSA-BCN-DSA (days 1-3-5-7), DSA-PMI-DSA (days -2-4-6-)

joint media release by easyjet and doncaster sheffield airport

Media | Press Releases | CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY, AS EASYJET FLY IN TO ANNOUNCE NEW FLIGHTS TAKING OFF FROM DONCASTER SHEFFIELD AIRPORT

MUFC_fan 10th Dec 2009 11:50

easyJet are an airline who don't like to put one aircraft in one place without any brothers ans sisters so I guess this may be the first of at least, I would assume, three over the course of the next 18-24 months.

Well done to the airport! There is a massive opportunity for easyJet there.

This aircraft is to be a Liverpool based aircraft operated by Liverpool based crew. Fantastic news for Doncaster Airport

compton3bravo 10th Dec 2009 15:09

A big kick in the eye for East Midlands me thinks with easy transferring some routes to DSA which is not too far up the road, must have got a very good deal.

The August timings suggest that its based at DSA with flights beginning (depending on the day) at 0620 and the last flight in at 2300.

lpl crew are night stopping

ben_keghead 10th Dec 2009 18:04

Its not going to be a crew base, but the aircraft will be night stopping and operated by Liverpool crew

MUFC_fan 10th Dec 2009 18:15

I'm sure the scousers are going to love that!

The possible delights of overnights in non-bases such as Barcelona, Nice or Lisbon - instead, Doncaster!

Not that I have anything against Doncaster...:ok:

I assume the plan will basically be based without crew who will night stop. Also, it must be interlined with an LPL aircraft in AMS I would assume?

EuroChallenger 10th Dec 2009 18:36

Doncaster

This is good news for Doncaster. Strange that the Geneva flights from a few years ago never reappeared at Robin Hood.

I would be pretty certain that should Jet2 announce a new base, the EZ move will rule out Doncaster in order to avoid a bun fight at the Okay Corale!

Factoring in the crew costs though, hotels, taxis, and so on, this cost must be factored into the seat prices.

Peel wouldn't be so stupid would they? Doncaster isn't worth ruining their 'special relationship' with easyJet at Liverpool is it?

Easyjet

Must say that I find this amazing, close East Midlands and Dortmund because the bases are to small with 3 aircraft and do not produce the yields but open a single aircraft base here.

Add to that overnight cost, they must be flying in and out for nothing.

It will be some of the same punters that were travelling from EMA, have they suddenly found more money to spend.

Best of luck and hope it works out.

Buy Liverpool, get Doncaster free?

pug 10th Dec 2009 19:07

I think jet2 were ruled out when they anounced a base at EMA!

I would imagine they have been offered a deal they cannot refuse at DSA and will likely have aircraft on the ground for longer otherwise...

munster 10th Dec 2009 20:22

i've heard that halfords have just run out of wheel clamps!!!
