Aurigny Air Services

If a one crew, rudimentary BN3 costs £500 an hour how come a 2 crew, more sophisticated Do228 costs 40% less ?

Wycombe 1st Feb 2014 08:49

.....one suspects that AVGAS (for the former) vs. JETA1 (for the latter) is probably part of the answer.

Geo73 1st Feb 2014 10:05

And the maintenance cost on the Trislander is much higher than the Dornier.

The MD was quoted this week saying that the Trislander's spend more time in the hangar these days and that they need two aircraft to keep one in the air.

Aurigny Air Services

Thanks for the replies to my question. Had breakfast with "Welkyboy" (ex AUR BN 3 pilot) shortly after asking the question, & got the same answer. I bow to authority, but am still surprised that the Do228 is so much cheaper.

Just noticed Aurigny have applied for the LCY GCI licence from May 2014
Think Blue Islands have missed a trick here!

Speaking of "missing a trick", you may wish to go back a page in this thread, to post #551 from about two weeks ago, which kicked off the discussion on the subject.;)

And I would disagree that BI have missed any trick here. I think there is some GR/BI choreography going on.

Interisland Codeshare

I see as of Sunday 16th March all interislands GCI-JER flights will be codeshare with Blue Islands on the ATR42, looking on the online check in system is seems Aurigny sell 21 seats per flight and Blue Islands 25, quite a big decrease in capacity however between the Islands and the choice of flight times is also quite poor.

Ayline 17th Feb 2014 21:21

A sad day indeed. So we shall have to get used to the 1 or 2 hour delays on inter island services which seem to be a regular occurrence on Blue Islands' services these days. I guess that is what they mean by a welcome difference!

Skipness One Echo 17th Feb 2014 22:53

Have the Trislanders all been withdrawn?

GAMPY 18th Feb 2014 07:01

The flight timings have largely been dictated by the competition authority. The capacity now will more closely match demand - both carriers were trolling round with more than a few empty seats. There will still be the need for extra rotations on Saturdays for sporting fixtures etc. but this has always been the case.

GAMPY 18th Feb 2014 07:03

This will not be a marriage made in heaven, as a BI friend of mine is keen on saying!

Have the Trislanders all been withdrawn?
Skippy, Aurigny still operates six Trislanders (G-RBCI, G-BEVT, G-RLON, G-JOEY, G-BDTO and G-FTSE - G-XTOR was sold to Cormack last year) though one is usually in maintenance at any one time. We won't know until next month whether two or three Dornier 228s will be ordered and until their delivery, at least some of the Tris will need to soldier on to continue to service the GCI - ACI, GCI - DNR and ACI - SOU routes - although it's interesting to note that on the recent application for a GCI - LCY route there was the possibility left open that a Dornier could be with us by May. Somehow it seems unlikely, but we shall see.

GR 608/609 cancelled two days in a row. Thought they had a spare aircraft?

Malthouse 20th Feb 2014 20:54

At a business meeting today a number of points were made:

Dornier 228s are still a matter of debate and will at best be leased.

Trislanders are now at a 50% in service and 50% being serviced situation, so operationally Aurigny plan for just 3 aircraft at a time.

Meeting charter or extra demand requirements is becoming near impossible, yet the board fear another charter operation may come in and take "the cream" during the times that Aurigny cannot compete.

Aurigny now flying daily direct to both GCI and JER from Stansted

As the title says. Effective from 1st June 2014. New schedule is as follows:

Sun - Fri
GR622: Dep. Guernsey 09:30, Arr. London-Stansted 10:40
GR443: Dep. London-Stansted 11:10, Arr. Jersey 12:25
GR444: Dep. Jersey 12:55, Arr. London-Stansted 14:10
GR627: Dep. London-Stansted 14:40, Arr. Guernsey 15:50

Sat:
GR624: Dep. Guernsey 11:40, Arr. London-Stansted 12:50
GR445: Dep. London-Stansted 13:20, Arr. Jersey 14:35
GR446: Dep. Jersey 15:05, Arr. London-Stansted 16:20
GR629: Dep. London-Stansted 16:50, Arr. Guernsey 18:00

J-Guy 26th Feb 2014 18:42

I expect the loss of flights to Luton and reductions to Southend has made the Jersey to Stansted route a better proposition for Aurigny to operate.

welkyboy 26th Feb 2014 18:49

They've been operating these W routes every summer for at least the last 5 Years!!

Ayline 26th Feb 2014 20:48

Not exactly. This new service is providing a twice daily service between the CI and Stansted whereas in recent times there has been a once daily service which was slotted in between the GR603 arriving in Guernsey at 1105 and the 1630 departure as the GR608 with some Guernsey flights operating via Jersey. The full W twice daily service was at weekends only. Also there hasn't been a Wednesday service to Stansted for about a year. This therefore provides quite a significant increase in seats.

FRatSTN 26th Feb 2014 21:10

Indeed you are correct. Only the weekends saw two flights at Stansted and was no Wednesday service, hence why I got 8 per week. It might have even been less than that outside the peak summer holiday period, as low as 6 per week.

Flights on the weekdays would operate via one or the other. Sometime it was Guernsey via Jersey and other days it was Jersey via Guernsey. A bit of a messy schedule to be honest.

This is near enough a double in their seat capacity at Stansted as they will now operate two separate rotations 7 days a week.

macuser 26th Feb 2014 21:52

Stansted

In other words - instead of a triangular service operating in different directions each other week day, it is now a W service operating daily....I think!
