waterford airport news and euromanx new routes

hi all
heard that waterford airport is to gain some new routes? with the help of euromanxs can anyone at euromanxs confirm this and does euromanx off staff travel interline agreements with other airlines?
thank you
merry christmas

WOWBOY 22nd Dec 2005 23:15

Air Wales will operate Waterford-Rennes (Brittany) from 28th March 2006. Flights operate on Tuesday and Saturday. Flights Start from 29.99 euros one way.

San Expiry 23rd Dec 2005 13:24

You've missed the boat or ferry or whatever you have down there in Waterford. Euromanx pulled out of the plans a while back. See
http://www.irishexaminer.com/pport/w...bBP-2fa91M.asp

I don't know if Euromanx even has its own staff travel let alone with anybody else.

NABLAG 24th Dec 2005 10:52

Why was the Euromanx idea to operate Galway and Waterford to "sun" destinations dropped ?

Would have thought it was a winner ?

Nearest airport offering these (sun flights) flights to Waterford residents (allowing for roads and checkin time) would be 4 hours away and if you use Dublin expect to leave Waterford about 5 hours before your flight departs.

airbourne 24th Dec 2005 12:11

Sun destinations out of Waterford? Hmm, Id like to see that, but would you get to the south of spain without a stop in an ATR 72? Cos theres nothing else that would get off that r/w!

euromanxdude 24th Dec 2005 13:59

talks in progress with some of the majors for interline staff travel

Isn't EIWF looking at a runway extension?

NABLAG 25th Dec 2005 10:36

Airbourne I wasn't suggesting ATR72s. BAe146s have been in and out of Waterford in the past. Pity Cityjet would not be interested.

Euromanx's RJ70s were going to do it. They operated last year from a shorter runway in Galway to Malaga.

I think A318/319s could possibly operate off Waterford's 1400m runway and a runway extension could be on the cards.

airbourne 28th Dec 2005 00:48

Runway extension? They have been talking about that for years! Ok, so you got a 146 down to Malaga! Would it work out of the South East. I remember when RE start the Lorient serivce, its was like all their Xmas's had come at once! However, the load factors told a different story! The managment really need to get the finger out if they are going to make it work, and I dont think Nicky is really botherd! What is EIWF? 2 flying clubs, a base for SAR, and a half arsed 'international' service to LTN!

ryan2000 28th Dec 2005 08:40

Location of EIWF

The location of Waterford is the prime reason for its lack of traffic. If it had been built across the Suir the journey time from alll over the South East would be reduced and it could be marketed as a the South East Regional Airport.

It's catchment area would have been at least as big as Knock. I'm a big hurling supporter but I can never understand why Waterford people are so reluctant to develop anything on the Kilkenny side of the river.

It's taking the county jersey rivalry too far.

airborne >>> I remember when RE start the Lorient serivce, its was like all their Xmas's had come at once! However, the load factors told a different story!

Care to explain this one ? - From what i've seen the load factor averaged 90-95% for the season. The service has increased from a shared service with Galway in 2004 to three direct flights for summer 2006.

airborne >>> The managment really need to get the finger out if they are going to make it work, and I dont think Nicky is really botherd

Seems to be working to me - passenger figures up 30% on 2004.

Waterford has always been the poor relation of the other regionals, while they squandered millions of PSO money over the years, Waterford has always had to survived as a commerical operation.

It will be interesting to see how the airports operate when PSO completes it run

Well you know yourself, you can never rely on 2nd hand info! Or info that comes out of a flying club!

NABLAG 28th Dec 2005 19:33

Are PSOs due to finish ???

hoss72 28th Dec 2005 19:51

I hear that 2005 pax throughput at EIWF is likely to be up almost 50% on 2004. As for new routes checkout the Air Wales website - Waterford - Rennes twice per week from end March. Talks are ongoing re other new routes with another carrier, it is unlikely that the Euromanx deal will go ahead in 2006. Plans have been mentioned locally for an extension to approx. 1,700mtr x 45mtr to be completed in 2008!

Hansol 29th Dec 2005 07:09

When you say up 50%, exactly how many pax is that?

NABLAG 29th Dec 2005 08:24

Doubt it very much if its 50%..........

Hoss you are right, Airwales is still advertising for the Waterford-Rennes however I don't think the route will happen. I talked to a manager recently from Waterfor airport and apparently the airlines hasn't contacted the airport yet  Furthermore the management in the airport has heard about the rumour and they will not allow this route to start up as it is a route to close to Waterford-Lorient flown by Arann. So it looks like Airwales have to look for a different route soon and take off their advertising on their website to avoid having too many upset passengers

Re: WATERFORD Airport

What airline in their right mind would start selling seats without talking to the destination airports ?

Cokeman you must have been given duff info. Air Wales must have been talking to somebody, surely ?

Your right!
If they have not being talking to the airport about these flights then they would not be on sale!
They have all the times, flight numbers etc!!

The Flying Cokeman 8th Jan 2006 20:28

Re: WATERFORD Airport

very well point taken, but it is still a fact that they (Air Wales) won't be allowed flying that route as the management of the board has said no. They believe the route is too close to the already excisting route flown by RE.
You can agree to disagree, time will tell who's right and wrong :ok:

WOWBOY 8th Jan 2006 21:01

Re: WATERFORD Airport

It will be funny if they started flying the route without premission

posts such as this makes me glad I'm out of the 6G equation.

Sky Conductor 29th Jan 2006 08:06

Well if an airline wants to fly a route then their is nothing an airport can do as long as there are no legal restrictions..ie political..like the shannon stopover. The airline may not receive any marketing support or start up discounts which is the norm at alot of airports. But as long as it pays all the published fees then for an airport to try stop the route would be discrimination. It would have to be a bloody good route for an airline to take that path but maybe Air Wales know more than we do about its potential...personally i think its a winner..a 48 seater twice a week between two lesiure destinations during the summer...cant go wrong..or can it?!!

Buster the Bear 4th Feb 2006 17:30

Luton will reduce from 2 fights daily to 1 a day for 4 days and 2 a day for 3 days, to allow for new routes yet to be announced from Luton.

After the big "euromanx" announcement last year that came to nothing everyone is staying quiet for a change.

Looks like the end of the month is realistic for some news.

Waterford New routes

Hi all,
I read in the most recent Irish Air Letter that there are to be 7 new routes in 2007 from Waterford. It stated that negotiation were at an advanced stage and they would be confirmed soon.

It stated that that Prague, Malaga & Faro would have service with Jet Aircraft which would most likely be 146s, it also said of the remaining new routes some would be to the UK.

IF this is for real I think it has to be Flybe. To offer this range of routes I think it most likely has to be a UK/Irish airline ,hence flybe comes to mind.

Assuming this happens, I would put my money on BHX, SOU, BHD & JER. Perhaps Aer Arann will do the flights to JER. The reason I say BHX, SOU, & BHD is with reference to Flybe new routes from Galway.

What does anyone else think or has anyone heard anything?

Centre cities 26th Nov 2006 16:40

My guess an Irish airline to Coventry.

anymore news on a carrier?? was hoping it would be flybe or atleast any airline that offers id90

The 5Q 2nd Dec 2006 09:56

Its not FlyBe, any new UK routes will be operated by Aer Arann with all the other routes to be operated by a new carrier.

The Waterford Chamber of Commerce seem to know all about this new airline...

WATERFORD Chamber President Kathleen Fitzgerald lauded the continuing growth and success of Waterford Airport and declared that the new airline due to be officially launched in Waterford in the New Year will need the support of every member of the Chamber to make it the success it should be.

Aer Arann

Aer Arann are launching a base at WAT from early january.

Better timings on the WAT - LTN route are expected.

New UK routes are also set to be launched.

Announcement due later in December.

The 5Q 25th Dec 2006 15:29

All Irish regional airports have applied for funding under transport 21.

Waterford has applied for a jet runway, ramp extension and terminal extension. The results should be announced in the next two weeks.

If the funding for the runway is approved it is expected to be completed by should be completed during 2009. Terminal work would start straigh away.

Waterford: 22.3m - Runway extension and widening (1850x45m), Terminal upgrades Apron Extension

Look's as if they could be more jet traffic on it's way once this is completed

Warrior2 22nd Feb 2007 21:30

Waterford recieved 27.5 million euro under the Transport 21 Scheme, the construction is to start immediatly, with the new road to the airport linking up to the outer ring road to cork and dubin, things may be heading the airports way, they plan to extend the current 1433 x 35?m runway into a 1850m X 45m runway, with extra parking space for aircraft, and of course a terminal extension.

virgincrew99 23rd Feb 2007 01:31

fantastic new !!! hopefully this will bring the dawn of staff travel to wat finally

Summer Services

The BAe146 service has finally been announced by Waterford Airport. The services will be flown by Nordic Airways according to Slattery Travel who are looking after the booking of seats and package holidays. www.slatterys.com

From June 22nd there will be twice weekly flights to Malaga, Faro & Bordeaux until the end of September where the destinations will change for the winter period.

The same services will also be flown from Galway.

spagiola 4th Apr 2007 15:40

Hmmm... There is no BAe 146 operator called Nordic (see list here). There is an airline called FlyNordic, but they fly MD-80s.
The Slattery's website also shows "Nordic" operating from Galway to the same destinations, so presumably there would be some kind of W pattern between the two airports?
