Have just been on Ryanair's website and I have no idea where Herne Bay got their info from because I cannot find it. I would love for another pax airline to come in as I use to be crew for EUjet. We may have only had a few pax but us crew did try to do a good job and made sure everyone was happy!!!!!!!
How they expect to handle any airline down there with no staff will be amazing as I have heard CVs are the only thing flying out of there. :} Never mind I am sure the Firecrews will look good after cleaning toilets, humping bags, unloading cargo, despatching aircraft and then finally doing a couple of sectors as Cabin Crew!!!!!! Infratil are certainly getting their monies worth out of them. |
MK said that once Plane Station raised the fees, it was cheaper to fly the cargo into Ostend and truck it into the UK than use Manston.
EUJet was doing okay until PJ and his cronies got too involved. What is this guy doing now? If he turns up on your doorstep, the consequences are inevitable! If Infratil heavily subsidise any airline inc RYR, it could happen and then last until the funds run out or the services become profitable. Many folk said that Stansted was inaccessible and in the wrong place, I bet they don't say that now! A good loyal servant of Wiggins lost his job after the EUJet debacle, unfortunately as he will admit, I warned him and suggested he find alternative employment once PJ turned up, which thankfully he has done now. I hope things work out for Manston. |
Honeysweetcombe, it is standard industry practice to utilise Fire Crew at low traffic density airports to load baggae and other Ground Handling duties. They still train up to requirements and practice drills at times of no flights. I saw them doing just that in the late 60's even, at Highlands and Islands airports.
I have never ever seen them flying as cabin crew though.....have you.? :hmm: |
But a few Fire Crew have gone down to London Ashford Airport ie:Lydd and more have put there cv in down there it's not a happy place at Manston now.:ugh:
|
Was only kidding about the firecrews doing sectors in the cabin, its just that they seem to be doing all the work down there with no credit, thought it could be another string to their bow?????? Your right though cleartopush, rumour has it that Lydd are rubbing their hands together with all the CVs arriving down there.
Hope it works down there for everyone, would be nice to see the place busy again:) |
I'm sure if they could find us a cute little fire retardent skirt, with a flourescent stripe down it, would be trained up as cabin crew as well!:{

Blazing Air I love it when you talk dirty.!! Now there IS a thought. Spearmint Rhino Airways, MAY just make a few bob. Certainly attract the Royal Warrant if Prince Harry has a say in it.!! :} However, Hooter's Air in the USA ain't doing so well, (Not opertaing really) so perhaps the Orange Shorts and tight T-Sirts don't pull the blokes like they used to, so perhaps a Marketing Junket to the Southern USA might be in order. I'm free.!!

The airport is recruiting again for the 'summer rush'
There are also rumours that the redundant MJSC hangar may again be utilised by a familiar company ;) |
Cargo Lion DC8 Manston
where has the above gone it's been there for years
|
it was cut up on April the 7th:{

oooh look, a Das Air DC10 in today :)

Hi all I am new to this forum.
The arrival of 5X-JCR this morning brings the rumour to the forefront. We heard just over a week ago that DAS Engineering had vacated the hangar it rented from BA at Gatwick. Word was that they were talking to Infratil about taking over their old MJSC hangar for maintenance AND moving their flights to Manston. Today's flight was positioning. It's on the main apron, and the port engine has been removed; ergo, maintenance is being carried out. Talks are continuing............ Plus Kent Escapes might add more hoilday routes this winter or next year. Manston is not really made for LCC but more charter flights. James |
Kent International Airport
Direct flight between Kent and Virginina are set to take off next year.
A weekly charter service between Norfolk and Manston should be operated by Cosmos in the UK and CI Travel in the USA Speeking in Fairfax Virginia Alxe King Deputy leader Kent County Council (A deal is close to being finalised). Scheduled airlines that use Norfolk are American , Continental , Delta , Northwest , and US Airways Kent Business Thus 4th May 2006 Exclusive by Trevor Sturgess |
Cosmos!!! There more used to offering charters to Majorca than Norfolk
|
this spin has been about before, i know they are looking to build a new
fantasy park at ramsgate, but did not MSE featured as part of it. have they managed to keep the charters for world this year or lost them to STN |
Manston WILL still see the World charter flights this summer
|
Manston-Norfolk Virginia
Norfolk Airport Authority Chairman Peter Decker said The History of England and Virginna is legendary, This is a tremendous opportunity to be the air gateway for Interational visitors coming to the Jamesstown 2007 festivities, and for US vistors to see the most beautifal parts of the UK.
I think Margate would be last place US vistors would visit the street are paved with chewing gum, I hope only the new Turner center opens and the place is cleaned up. Canterbury is only 15 mins that has millions of vistors each year |

This is starting to look very like the history of post-BAA PIK. Fire crews all leaving or threatening to leave due to "multi-skilling" (in managementese), a few freighters, then some USA charters in the summer (around '94 or '95 there was a season of BWI and DTW charters with American Trans Air.
I understand that Infratil were not controlling PIK at the time, but the similar growth pattern must be encouraging for MSE. However at PIK they did build an integrated rail station when pax numbers were close to zero. Maybe MSE needs some forward looking infrastructure improvement like this now? XSB |
rail link
The rail line pass's the edge of the Airport.
What you notice about Thanet Area is a massive investment |
I live in Thanet and I can't see any the investment you're on about. For that matter I can't see any investment at MSE. It's all looking rather bedraggled. Personally, I can't see the commercial sense in using the place. It's out on a limb in East Kent and it takes hours and gallons of fuel to get to anywhere outside Kent. It seems to me that the London airports are far better placed to deal with freight AND passengers. With fule costs set to keep on rising, I think the debate will soon shift from which new airports shall we develop, to which airports will survive ?

The CLOSEST it gets is about half a mile from the airport perimeter, and even then a) it is still separated from the airport by a major road, b) it's still on the wrong side of the airport to serve the terminal. |

It's main plus is it suffers few ATC constraints. Well that's a start! |
Come on chaps, this is getting tiresome. The usual old stuff that's trotted out about rail links, no catchment area etc etc.
500,000 live within a 20 min drive 1.9m live within a 60 min drive Very few regional airports in Britain have rail links. I can think of Southampton and Prestwick. It's all about market opportunities, management and investment. Sun routes, plus links to such places as Dublin, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Amsterdam are the key to success in pax services. There are masses of Poles working in Kent. The esoteric stuff is a bonus. As for freight, the potential is huge. Emirates Air Force has moved there from Lyneham; huge benefits in reduced flying time. The Middle and Far East are where all the growth is taking place. Which is the closest UK airport to them? DAS is talking seriously about a move. The delay to Stansted's 2nd runway will have an impact. And it's not just about airport capacity. Lots of freight/parcels carriers find that their vehicles can't get into and out of the major airports because of road congestion. It is also very suitable for tech stops. Investment is needed to get the fuel supply right, plus quite a few other things. I just hope that Infratil have got the money and drive to pull it off. They have an established relationship with Ryanair and Wizz. We shall see. |
"Lots of freight/parcels carriers find that their vehicles can't get into and out of the major airports because of road congestion."
And there's no road congestion around Thanet, is there ? LOL ;) |
Jes You are not really Syeed from "The Apprentice" are you.??
I agree with you about the freight. All the arguments are there, but Pax (other than local traffic) no chance. It's not "the usual stuff" it's reality. |
Jes
Well said :D just have to wait and see now hope ryanair or Wizz fly out off MSE. Another DAS aircrat landed at MSE yesterday AJK1087 DC10 5X-ROY eta 1439 from Lagos No outbound FPL James |
Jes said: "The Middle and Far East are where all the growth is taking place. Which is the closest UK airport to them?"
Are you seriously suggesting that proximity to the destination has anything to do with the choice of which airport you fly your goods from? If so, might I respectfully point out that there are numerous continental airports which are closer to the Middle East than Manston. Is it just me or are there people on this board, who seem increasingly desperate to tell us that Manston is making progress? The weeds tell a different story. |
catflaps
:= Manston is the closeist UK airport to the Middle East:ok: james |
RAIL LINK
It may come as a surprise to some of you, that Manston did once have a rail link when it was military airfield. It was closed in 1927, presumably traffic could not justify the cost in those times of military retrenchment.
Parts of the route can still be seen as crop marks in aerial photos, if you know where to look. I can't see that particular route being reopened for two reasons, 1) development on the route, 2) ends up on the wrong part of the airfield. Having said that, another route might have possibilities, there used to be a rail branch passing Nash Road, Margate. I would not have thought that would be too difficult to re-open as far is I can see, others may know better. I suspect a link to the Ramsgate/Minster line would have rather too much of a gradient. |
All has gone silent with BA Cargo. The only reason Oliver built the BIP.
Das are back for 6 months and pax start in 12 days but where are the ground staff for kent escapes, newmarket holidays, military and world airways? MK keep ticking over with the frequent flights on tues weds and sun but with only the Fire Crews to turn around. If Manston wants to move forward then it needs investment in both its staff and ground equipment. |
You need to shout louder, the management can't hear you and we are all horse from shouting !!:{ :{
|
blazing_air
So there are livestock flights from Manston!! Perhaps you mean hoarse?!! |
Damn it !!
Did i let the CAT out of the bag??:) |
Billygoat,
can you elaborate on "Das are back for 6 months " |

Whilst i am in favour of spreading the word, if you have news or rumours about a particular airline i don't think it is prudent to talk about future flights that may be of a sensitive nature in this world we live in today. |
Investment in Thanet
catflaps
:{ :{ :{ :{ :{ Have you ever been to the Westwood area in thanet? Massive investment taking place, pehaps you dont get out I never said at MSE Thanet area |
So, let's get this straight. You're using an aviation bulletin board, but when you talked about massive investment, you were actually referring to the shopping centre that's been built several miles away.
Would you not agree that Manston is looking very run-down, and in dire need of investment? Would you not agree that Infratil don't appear to be investing any folding money into the place? |
