Looks as though Loganair have had a rethink on LDY - MAN. According to local press report this morning this service is to resume at the start of May - wonder what has changed to prompt the U turn?

Report was in this morning's Belfast News Letter - about the mystery operator, announced today Aer Arann starting LDY - MAN & BHX on 17 June - if the Loganair report is correct presumably they're trying to get in first on the MAN. Begs the question though whether demand will support two operators.

noticed on BA Website that From November Loganair
will no longer be running the Kirkwall-Wick-Edinburgh route. Flight from Edinburgh to Wick now goes onto Sumburgh just wondered whats the reason for the change ? Is there no longer flights now between Wick and Kirkwall ? |

Looking at the LDY website it would appear (at least from the timetable info) that AerArann are ceasing ops from the end of July on both the MAN and BHX routes....only a month or so after increasing capacity on both these routes!

22 July is when the new PSO arrangements begin with Loganair keeping the LDY-DUB, and gaining NOC-DUB.
This additional route will stretch them - expect more wet leasing in the short term. |

there are more Saabs on the way I believe, one due Jul 12 according to jethros. As for overstretch they knocked back SXL and CFN for that reason. |

Gosh the airline business is so full of strange coincidences.
So, Loganair get the Irish Government Subsidised PSO contracts from the Irish Government for Sligo and Donegal - oh but on the morning they get awarded them they suddenly decide they are unable to do them - so magically Aer Arann get them at a higher fee. Oh - how lucky for Aer Arann. Then oh magically Aer Arann do not get the LDY PSO contract and quickly pull all their flights from LDY - and oh as if by magic Logan announce on the same day they will start flying MAN-LDY - the very day Arann stop. Magic. Oh - how lucky for Logan. So kind then of Loganair to stop flights to Galway making life a bit easier for Aer Arann. How lucky for all concerned. Smells like teen spirit. But gosh - there is a worse smell off that Euromanx debtors ledger in GWY though. Explain that to the auditors! |

Logan didn't have to talk to Arann to divine their intentions re LDY, merely take note of previous RE-actions. These routes are essentially supported by the PSO money and thus it is no surprise that Logan and Arann are swapping routes since they are swapping PSOs and Logan doesn't have unlimited aircraft (as seen by their knock back of SXL/CFN) since their new (to them) Saabs are replacing retiring ATPs. |

I'd say that cheap fares with FR from SNN to PIK on a nice big Boeing also has had a large part to play in Logan's decision to pull out of GLY. Does anyone know what their loads to from Galway were ?
Pity that the choice to Scotland from the West of Ireland is now one less - but thats competition I suppose. |

Jan 328 Feb 386 March 431 April 501 May 602 These figures were taken from the CAA provisional lists of stats but they usually give a pretty accurate picture of the final figures. Of course the figures don't show airlines so if more than one sched airline flew this route it would not be possible to break them down further. However, it seems from reading this thread that Loganair was the sole carrier so they must all be their pax. I don't know their frequency or aircraft type so cannot ascertain the average load or percentage load factor. Finally, as those in the business keep telling me, loads are only one indication. Yields are the important thing. |
Quite simply, the aircraft going to GWY can be put to better use on other routes. As MAN and NOC are also starting, and Logan aren't exactly overcrewed or carrying spare aircraft, the simple decision would be to pull an average performing route for a better one.
Don't think competition had much to do with it. SNN-PIK is an extra 100 miles on the road if someone wants to get from GWY - GLA. Bearing in mind the LOG fare from GWY wasn't exactly excessive I doubt it was a major factor. |
Loganair are about to lease another couple of Fk50s from Denim Air to be based at GLA, theres already one at ABZ I think, and DUB is one of the rumoured destinations for these a/c!
