cuthere what about numbers for Tenerife

cuthere 15th Jul 2011 11:11

Whoops!

Tenerife: 1216/-/152/81%

NorthernCounties 15th Jul 2011 12:41

That took me by surprise, the CAA released the figures early in the day, I've waited to 5 before for the spread sheet to be loaded! I've stopped looking waiting for them now and just wait to see your breakdown CU, always more clear and well broke down! :ok:

Fantastic growth seen, and growth not due to poor weather or volcano from last year! Forgive me if I'm wrong but STN's LF has gone up with the 2 double dailies, business people and others are obviously making use of the morning and evening flight in one day! More reason for FR to do it on more days of the week, unless they fear the business travelers will soon be using a more flexible service to LGW! :8

Fantastic loads on the sun routes too, should entice FR to add more next year. Also you may have seen me comment on BE's thread, they operate flights on behalf of TOM, aka Falcon Holidays. Wonder if BE do open more routes, and do possibly base an aircraft, could we have more Falcon Holiday routes from LDY in 2013, with the flights operated by BE? All speculation of course, but it would fit in nicely.

Tenerife has 2 rows blocked off is i'm correct. This would leave a LF of 86%?

Amelia Earhart 15th Jul 2011 20:00

Nope. The rows were blocked off not removed with a spanner.

There is no restriction on flights out of Derry. If the rows were blocked off it's because the seats hadn't sold.

Amelia Earhart 15th Jul 2011 20:10

That there will be new announcements by Ryanair at LDY is a racing certainty (and I would strongly tip Malaga for 2012) but the real question is whether 48% on the Manchester route is sufficient to encourage them to maintain the route past October.

Ringwayman 15th Jul 2011 20:28

Errr.. BE operate the LDY-MAN service that was/is going to end in September. They may be satisfied with that as it's still quite low - it'd be a bit more encouraging for FR is the loads were going above the 55 to 60 passengers as they may then be able to get away with the 738 knowing what passengers are currently willing to pay so lever their fare stucture accordingly.

Amelia Earhart 15th Jul 2011 20:59

Sorry, very badly worded. I was of course referring to Flybe (as "them") on the Manchester route.

But on that point I think Ryanair could have run that route had they ever tried.

FR LDY figures for the first half of the year

Good evening,

Here are the FR figures for the first half of the year (source: CAA). When calculating the flown loads I've assumed 189 seats per flight. Note the volcano effect in 2010. Still, the numbers tell an encouraging story:

Amelia theman route has grown by 7% on last month. If we're lucky we could see he same next month bring tge lf to 55. I believe be are happy with that on otherr routes operated. Carn has also stated that be are now looking at extending it and possibly starting edi and lgw so i wouldnt write it off. That you al for the breakdown, a rise of 32k is great!

cuthere 16th Jul 2011 16:17

Anna_list: excellent stuff as always. STN is growing brilliantly, and for a LF of 92% in June, then surely somebody is looking at LDY and thinking that perhaps there is further demand there for more LON routes.

Amelia/Northern. If one looks at Exeter (for relative comparison to LDY....similar sized city, major competition up the road etc), and analyse their BE routes, then it becomes apparent that the airline can exist with quite low LFs. For instance, EXT to GLA LFs are consistently in the 40s%. When I travel through EXT (on the normally one third to half full BHD-EXT route), there is no sign that this route, or any others are threatened. Furthermore, NOC-EDI carried a mighty 1086 pax in June, and BE are pretty happy with that operation.

A bit less negativity from some quarters would be useful. Look at where the airport is now, and compare it to 18 months ago for a bit of perspective.

What confuses me is the face that FR had double daily on sale from the winter schedule but removed them again. So obviously it was planned to go double daily, so what changed their mind? With a LF of 92% demand is definetely there and as you say Cuthere also for another carrier to start another London route. I'd imagine if BE start LGW then FR will almost certainly go double daily on STN.

I see PIK is still in the 50-60% margin which isn't great but FR must be content as it's daily for winter, should they not cut it down to 4/5 weekly and put BHX daily?

cuthere 16th Jul 2011 17:19

Carn, when the LDY-STN winter schedule was first loaded, the timings were so ridiculous it seemed inevitable that there would be significant changes.

Hopefully BE will come through with the announcements of EDI and LGW. In the same way FR seem to have brought with them some pax who used them at BHD, then BE could do the same (remember their posturing about making a "robust response" to WW's move to BHD?).

Either way, things are going just nicely at LDY at the minute. When you look at the CAA stats and compare LDY with BLK, HUY, MME, NQY and NWI, over the years LDY has overtaken all but NWI, and the stats for June brought LDY within a few thousand of that airport, so it could be only a matter of time for that too.

P.S. Any more word from your source ref: announcements from BE?

Haven't been speaking to them lately but I know for definite that BE are taking MAN year round. With only 10 weeks left in BE's current LDY operation I'd expect that announcement to be imminent to boost bookings etc. Maybe the hold up is them finalising times/slots/aircraft for EDI.

Perhaps BE are waiting for RE's departure on Thursday, with the whole big fuss about losing the route, they might piggy back on that saying they're coming to the rescue in the same way they did when FR pulled out of BHD.:ok:

cuthere 18th Jul 2011 21:56

NC, Dublin's gone. BE, nor any other airline will come to the rescue (rescue of what?? More people use the STN route in two days than DUB in an entire month). I can't imagine any airline will see any commercial opportunity in it.

As for BE EDI/LGW, fingers crossed Carn's source is correct.

NorthernCounties 18th Jul 2011 22:04

Sorry I wasn't to clear, I know DUB is long gone, but I'm sure it'll be in the papers about LDY losing the route, then BE will be able to step in and say they're introducing 1 or 2 new routes to EDI and (fingers crossed) LGW. Good positive publicity for them!

cuthere 18th Jul 2011 22:06

Ah! I see. My apologies.

EDI and LGW would/(will!) be most welcome.

NorthernCounties 18th Jul 2011 22:11

With 2 months tomorrow until MAN "ends" I think BE would need to hurry up with the announcement. DUB stops, gets coverage in the Fridays Journal, Monday the new routes announced just in time for the Tuesdays Journal. ;) Everyone keep your fingers crossed!

Looking forward to using the MAN service, booked on it in just 3 weeks time!

CARNMANORLAD 19th Jul 2011 19:19

I see todays Thomson flight to PMI was operated by a Sunwings Canadian A/C.
