Routes

Any one know if there are going to be any new routes from LDY shortly.

Stewart28 27th Apr 2008 10:24

Found this when search the net about the airport manager

Interestingly, the City Council chief engineer 'retired' about the same time. Surprised they are looking for an operations manager as well.

Just as a matter of interest who carries out the Bird Control, in Derry now?

Stewart28 28th Apr 2008 09:59

There is a bird unit at the airport, always see a yellow jeep with bird unit writing on it

Looks like LDY is to lose link to GLA, BA website not accepting bookings after july 23rd to GLA unless it will be switched to the flybe website then. If not then it will be PIK left with FR.

MarkD 18th May 2008 21:40

that's due Logiebear losing the Irish government subsidy route to DUB (to Aer Arann) - the same aircraft was doing LDY-GLA.

Nineiron 18th May 2008 21:46

Ldy-gla

There do not seem to be any flights after 21 July on the BA timetable. Are BA confirming the withdrawal of this route?

4567 18th May 2008 23:52

Doubt it BA have never been interested in the happenings of Loganair. Especially now that there leaving for Flybe in OCT 08.

Local Residents

I read that today 31st of May was the last day for residents beside the airport at the end of the runway to move out...

Does anyone know when the work will be finished??

With the arrival of Aer Arann in July does anyone think that they will look to other new routes from the airport? I think that the ATR 42/72 would be well suited to many markets, Edinburgh for a start would be a good one, what about Manchester?

Would be great to see some new developments for new routes at Eglinton.

Ryanair announced on Thursday that they will be starting and new route to London-Luton in October

mysecretsmile 10th Jun 2008 09:24

When is the Derry runway finished

Good news that London Luton is being started by Ryanair, shoudl add
more valuable passenger numbers to the airport.

Does anyone know when the new runway extension at the airport
is due to be complete ? I had heard that Spring 09 had been talked about ?

Will this open up the airport to providing a lot more new routes (maybe a
couple of European direct routes by RYR ?)

Ryanair routes

I would imagine if Ryanair do flights to Continental Europe they will be from bases abroad, ie Alicante, however, I think the likely destinations would be Malaga, Faro and Paris Beauvais however as none of these are bases they would need to be W pattern flights. We will have to wait and see!!

Any thought's?

Is the Airport up for sale? What a relief that will be to the North Wests tax payers who have had to subsidise this loss maker from the start.

ALPHA ECHO 14th Jun 2008 11:02

1) I think you mean the Rate payers and yes I suppose speaking as a north west rate payer I will be happy to see my rates lower significantly.
The reality is though that I probably wont because bills only ever seem to increase these days.
2) one thing the "Derry Liar" opps, sorry Journal and it's readers never do is to attempt to balance the high cost to rate payers with the benifit to the region i.e employment (both direct and indirect), tourism, transport infrastructure, convenience, etc
3) luton starts 28th oct

rubik101 15th Jun 2008 23:39

I think it is quite likely that RYR will cease operations from LDY just as soon as the new apron/taxiway is finished.

cuthere 16th Jun 2008 08:31

Why do you think that?!

Stewart28 17th Jun 2008 10:08

I don't think Ryanair will cease operation from LDY, as today they just announced another route to BHX just check there website

Uncle Monty 17th Jun 2008 12:09

BHX could be instead of EMA as it has yet to make an appearance on the winter schedule.

Fine, plenty of room to offer the next operator.....:)

seriously though

Donnybrewer road - visited it yesterday and it's like a war zone - I should think it will be at least a few months before the new RESA is in operation.
