BMIbaby In the bad books with local press

Hi All

I read in my local paper, the Derby Evening Telegraph, yesterday and today, people are writing in complaining about bad service from BMIbaby.
In todays issue, a couple trying to fly from Jersey back to EMA, had there flight cancelled due to fog, the next flight for them was in 4 days time !!!!! so in the end they caught the ferry to Portmouth and then a train to Derby and then a taxi to EMA to get there car back, a total cost of £200.00, but BMIbaby will not compensate them ?
This is really bad press for BMIbaby at the moment, i don't know if there is a link to the Derby Evening Telegraph so you can see it, maybe some one could find it, it is in the section of the Editors letters.
My friend who lives in Nottingham says they had a similiar thing in the local press a few weeks ago about BMIbaby.

Had these people not heard of Thomsonfly (CVT) or Flybe (BHX)? I know there have been lots of reports of baby problems at EMA, but there are easier ways of getting back than using the ferry.

AIRBOY 9th Jul 2004 18:48

mike do you have a grudge against bmibaby, everytime i read the threads here, you are always highlighting the problems that bmibaby encounter!

why should bmibaby compensate them, it was due to bad weather, the last thing i want to be reading is about baby losing an aircraft, but then again it might give you something to write about!!

safety is paramount!

Mike16 9th Jul 2004 18:53

Hi

No i do not have a grudge about BMIbaby, this is a forum on all Airlines etc.....
I just feel the way they deal with pax is awful, they could not get any other flights as they were cancelled, please for futher info look at a Derby Evening Telegraph , todays and yesterdays and you will see what i mean, it gives all Lo- cos a bad name.

Have a good day

AIRBOY 9th Jul 2004 18:59

i assume that the airline that you work for has far superior customer service??

have you had bad customer service yourself from baby or someone you know??

we both know how much pax blow things out of proportion, you have seen holidays from hell, people make things up to try get compensation!!

why not give the baby a break

EastMids 9th Jul 2004 18:59

The Nottingham Evening Post called them "BMIMaybe" a few weeks ago! :D

Book on a cheap and nasty airline - get what you pay for! :uhoh:

AIRBOY 9th Jul 2004 19:03

i wouldnt go so far as to call them a "cheap and nasty" airline!!

cheap yes, but not nasty, they do have problems but how can problems with weather be a companies fault, its not like something they can control!!

if its tech then thats something the company can control, but weather is a no

Mike16 9th Jul 2004 19:04

Hi

I work for a lo cost airline myself, and my parents have flown with BMIbaby and when they have they have always been delayed mega time.
I also have pax who fly with us and they tell us of there experience with BMIbaby, not all people are liars !!!!!!
All i am saying is that are having a lot of problems at the moment with regards customer service and expectations.....

AIRBOY 9th Jul 2004 19:07

we all have problems, i think that maybe baby need to remember that passengers make paydays possible and look at the customer service side!

if your airline cancels a flight would they compensate the formentioned couple?

Mike16 9th Jul 2004 19:10

Hi Airboy

The airline i work for, would refund the flight. If a flight is delayed for 4 hours or more, it refunds. The first alternative would be to get them home, if having to use new crew from another base.
I feel BMIbaby need to look at there policies on this futher

Oh F Off Mike.

Coulda happened with any airline. I flew Baby a few weeks ago from Teeside to Malaga and back and they were great. No I don't work for 'em.

Mike16 9th Jul 2004 19:16

Hi

Now i am being told to F-off, all i am doing is expressing an opinion, am i not allowed to do that ? maybe at Teeside they are running ok, nice small base, but at EMA there main base it is a different story, please read our local press and then you will see

AIRBOY 9th Jul 2004 19:16

would your airline have landed at an airport where the weather was too bad??

the issue is not about getting new crew, the airfield was unavailable!!! what could baby have done?

there are a few delays for baby today at EMA, time to start a new thread mike!!

LBA 9th Jul 2004 19:41

Lay off Mike for gods sake, hes a good guy (Or so I gather from reading these forums!), only reporting on a story in a paper.

Incidentally Baby having a bad time @ CWL tonight also..

WW5202 Malaga 16:40 Landed 19:48
WW5004 Edinburgh 19:55 Expected 23:25
WW5972 Prague 20:50 Expected 22:50
WW5644 Alicante 02:05 Delayed

Mind you, seems every airline is into there tonight!

6G103 London City 19:00 Expected 21:30
HH4205 Heraklion 19:35 Expected 21:30
BY523B Corfu 21:45 Expected 23:25

GIANNI 9th Jul 2004 20:26

If tech problems occur at outstations the station that always lose an aeroplane is NEMA. This is a normal occurance . If an aeroplane is "playing up" with tech problems then it is brought to NEMA for maintenance .Hence the delays out of NEMA ! It isn't that complicated to work out .Maybe other lowcost operators don't get any tech problems until nightstop ?

CATAWAMPUS 9th Jul 2004 21:01

Sorry Mike, bad mood due arguing with the wife.

Yes you are entitled to an opinion, but Baby are not all crap. Give them a break!

Electric Sky 9th Jul 2004 23:22

Mike

I am pretty sure that it is bmibaby policy to offer a refund too in this case, or a later flight. The point of this was that they didn't offer an alternative method of transport to the pax concerned. Would EZY really have done much more? This is why passengers can enjoy the low fares of today .... no frills = little or no backup when things go wrong.

ES ;)

rjdude 10th Jul 2004 00:15

So would Easyjet COMPENSATE in situations like these or do they just offer REFUNDs - there is a difference.

For those wonder what the fuss is all about, have a look here - a grand sum of THREE letters to the editor.

Oh Mike....
U really don/t help yrself yourself, at times !!
Baby have the same policy as Easy regarding the 4 hour delay rule... But, in the case of weather, the airline can NEVER be held responsible...U can bet that there is more to this than meets the eye !!
Journalistic licence, of course !!
Hope you enjoyed AGP !!
I'm off to Notts for a bevvie !!!
Tot ziens !!;)

alterego 11th Jul 2004 09:39

Like I have said before it is amazing how some people like to jump up & down and put Baby down!

I have friends who will never fly with Easy again, so what? A nuisance to them at the time but doesn't make Easy totally cr*p!

Baby has had problems lately but in the past so have Ryanair, Easy and I'm sure if you look hard all Locos.

The weather in Jersey can be too bad to fly, simple. The thing with these passenger's situation was that there was no flight scheduled for next few days. Very bad news for them, I know but I'm sure they would want to be safe.

Baby, like the other Locos need to look at their Customer service, all the time. How many passengers are seen complaining about Easy's customer service on Airline?

baps 11th Jul 2004 14:25

Baby must be pretty happy with their JER route. If it was going to take 4 days before their pax could get on a flight back the loads must be good. It's funny. Pax still don't realise that when you buy a ticket with a LCC then you're not going to get all the extras that you do with a full fare airline. I'm sure that you'd be hard pushed to get any money out of any LCC following a cancelled flight due to fog. Lets face it there's not alot the airline can do about that. Not saying that that's right it's just the way it is.

Baby delay

Not sure it is totally relevant to the posts, but I too am tired of constant berating of Baby.

I have flown with them regularly, mostly from MAN or EMA, and have only had a major delay once in Prague. And on the flight out last time I had the pleasure of a mainline Airbus.

Am flying EMA/PAR next week and before tax is £19, so what do you expect for that price.

I flew the week before last HLX from NCL/HAJ and was delayed 7 hours going out but I accept I only paid 48 Euros return so you get what you pay for.

I accept people will disagree but just my thoughts.

737James 12th Jul 2004 23:55

I've not seen the letters myself but have been told about them it doesnt sound very good PR but nothing much we can do about it now except to try and improve in future its horrible havin to give a PA to pax after they have had long delay but most of time nothing the crew onboard can do about it most times annoyed about it themselves with tech aircraft and ops doing frequent aircraft swaps.
I know personally how annoying the weather at Jersey can be late last year i got stuck downroute with fog. The weather was well above min for landing but trouble is it comes in so quick couldnt do much about it annoying thing was had sisters birthday meal to go out on that night which didn't go doen too well.
