New EI routes to US

According to a rumour on an Irish bulletin board (Dublin Airport forum), EI is to begin services to SFO (definite) and either MIA or MCO (with MCO still favoured by EI) on the 24th October.

As much as I welcome this, I wonder how they're going to pull it off. The US/Irish bilateral limits EI to a certain number of cities and it's only able to add second-line cities (like BWI) as a result of off-bilateral deals, to bring new services to these locations. However, SFO and MIA are very much top-rung destinations. I wonder how they're going to work this out. Does an expected order, at the end of this month, make a difference? . . .

However, even if a Boeing order were to make a difference, US carriers flying to Ireland would surely object if EI were given new cities and they got no further concessions.

All rather confusing, really . . .

Any EI people care to explain what's going on?
