Yes, a 146 could do it, as well. But they're bigger, which is fine if you can fill them. If not, the Q400 will be better.

flybe actually own quite a few of their 146s now. That doesn't of course mean that the Q400s won't be leased via a third party (which actually makes a lot of sense if the third party is offshore). This is common practice.

To believe that anyone pays cash for new aircraft these days is to show a complete ignorance of how the industry works.
