Air Lib ORY slots: The results

from www.airlinequality.com

easyJet and Virgin Express have been assigned takeoff and landing slots at Orly airport that were freed up by failed French carrier Air Lib, French authorities said.

EasyJet won 7,300 of 35,568 annual slots that were reassigned by Cohor, the agency that handles the slots, while Virgin Express was given 5,840. Other major airlines to benefit were Air France, with 2,190 slots, and Iberia, with 1,460 slots. Air France unit Brit Air also won 1,250 slots. French regional airline Aeris received 7,612 slots. In addition to the 35,658 new slots assigned by Cohor, the organisation said the French state had reserved 8,906 slots for routes to Corsica and overseas territories.

The Virgin Express slots include domestic routes to Bordeaux and Toulon as well as to Rome. Virgin confirmed earlier this month that it had placed a bid for some of the assets of Air Lib.

Question Is that enough?

And now the question is:

"Is that enough slots for Easyjet to open a base in Paris?"

Wait and see.........

....and if easyJet wanted, would they now be able to transfer the easyJet Switzerland (EZS) slots at ORY into the main easyJet slot pool at ORY?

I'm not suggesting eJ would drop the current GVA-ORY operation, but if the slots were all pooled (rather than being strictly allocated to the separate AOC's) it would give a lot more flexibility to operate the aircraft flying lines in the most economical way.

The reason EZS were given ORY slots originally (and no UK-based low-cost airlines) was clearly for political reasons. Most of those reasons have now gone.

In trim.

EasyJet won 7,300, enough for 10 return flights per day.

Hardly worth writing home about.

And guess what : a continental carrier is strongly intending to cross the Channel and tackle the UK market. Several high flow routes are under investigation.

I'll be back with more information when the situation's cleared up a bit...

Sounds like Europe is creating turmoil !

I think easyJet were after 20,000 slots.

As for availability, I assume they are ready for the taking now ... Air Lib are not using them!!!

Following routes now appear to be the likely winners of slot alloc.

1 x daily Barcelona
4 x daily Marseille
1 x daily Milan
4 x daily Nice.

So is Orly really slot-limited? I'm not in the industry, but have paxed out of there a few times over the years. It always seems a bit 'dead' - not much going on. I'd of thought they could handle quite a few more flights. Is it an airspace thing or are they runway or gate limited?
