Well done Luton and TBI!

Luton, well done!

Never thought that it would happen. Ryanair announce a new route, Hapag start soon to Cologne. Long gone are the days of Fly-Victoria and Ciao Fly.

By my math, at 80% loads, the Ryanair and Hapag additions will boost the passenger figures by around 500,000 per year!

And there could be more to come?

1. Hapag will expanding massively next year, so linking their new routes could occur? (Won’t Hapag be flying from Cologne to Bergamo!)? Are Ryanair laying their towel down first?

2. Will Thomas Cook lay idly by? My Travel and TUI have/are launching low cost, will they have to follow? BargainJMC, cheapCookies, who knows?

3. Buzz will open a new (3rd) base next year, but where?

4. Baby have stated an intention to open a new (3rd) base next year. Now my thinking here is that Lufty have an influence over Baby. Easy may buy DBA, Ryanair are already huge in Germany. Maybe the low cost fight could be brought back to north London?

5. The coup that TBI have pulled luring Ryanair into Luton apart from Dublin is massive. If the seats sell, and I know there is a demand from the loads reported to be flown earlier this year by Ciao, and the local Italian community, who knows what is next?

Well done to Luton Borough Council, TBI and all their staff.

Now just think of all the Italian and German visitors to England, hopefully some will visit the zoo, then I can eat Parma Ham and Frunkfurt-ers!

I hope that it works out as you predict, however, the biggest problem with having Ryanair as a based operator is that they want all the facilities but to pay none of the fees.

Luton have already been through this once with EZY, and I wonder if they'll really tolerate Ryanairs tactics indefinately, especially when Ryanair have the option to up sticks and move it all back to Stansted.

As for Luton being BMI baby's 3rd base -

They can start up whatever they like but until the road access to LTN improves then they haven't got a prayer!

What the hell is happening? Is Stansted full or are airlines starting to realise that Luton is in a better location than its Essex counterpart? This might help explain why a new apron is under construction.

Look, it is all down to location, only a few miles from London-Whipsnade zoo!

Seriously though, it is good news for the local economy, should create a few new jobs.

Just looked again at www.lowfarejet.de and they reckon to be starting soon from Hanover.

Frankfurt-ers and Hamburg-ers to eat soon!

No business just "Falls into laps".

You can forget Baby at Luton. They have on more than one occasion stated that they will not set up a base anywhere which will have an impact on bmi at Heathrow.

I WISH I HAD A LARGER CAGE!!!

They must be arguing over the small print, like how many free tickets they give away to Whipsnade with every one sold via the web. After all, I am the THE major attraction in the London area!

According to the local news paper, a certain baby will neither confirm or deny a new base north of London however, a decision should be made on a third base before the years end.

bmi has sufferered enough at LHR over the last couple of years due to competition from the low cost operators at Luton and Stansted. It is highly unlikely therefore that it is going to start up its own low cost operation on the doorstep of its main operation.

teifiboy

Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt BMi collapse the majority of their EMA mainline programme into Baby?

If so, why wouldnt they chop some of the LHR mainline and replace with Baby at LTN? Maybe it will be their way of revenge on the low costs?

And give up some of the most valuable airport slots in the world? Use 'em or lose 'em.
