JAL returning to Middle East after 30 years

Japan Airlines plan to start daily Tokyo Haneda-Doha service from summer 2024 with 787-9, tQatar Airways will be codesharing.

JL had previously served the region till early 1990 operating milk run service to Abu Dhabi. Kuwait. Jeddah and Cairo linking the route with points in Thailand. India. Pakistan and Greece on seperate days with DC10.

They also Tehran was served till 1979 and Beirut earlier both with DC8.

Garuda is the next big name airline heading there from April with daily 777.

Why the return now ? New economic ties between various M.E countries needing Japanese Tech ?

Qatar do love to throw money about. I would've never expected IB metal in Doha either but here we are. Even AA metal for gods sake!

But now AAB is gone (& Alaska's SVP being appointed OW CEO), I would expect a tone-down in their influence on what has basically become "Qatar & associates alliance" !

Indian carrier Akasa has also picked up scent from Doha and have chosen it as their first interational route to start next month, usually its UAE cities and Muscat that get such first international services by sub continent carriers.

UAE seating capacity limits are already maxed out for a Indian carriers.

What about Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi cities? Doha is never the first., anyways Akasa inaugural turned out to be an all female crew flight.
