Gulf Air Flying Chefs!
Whatever will they think of next?

I do hope they have done their market research on this one, otherwise it's gonna be another complete waste of money.
50% of Gulf Airs flights between Bahrain and London are overnight. I don't know about others but I prefer to sleep not eat. I think they would have better spent their money on beds like BA.

Well done Gulf Air. At last some initiative and inspiration. Hogan is lighting a fire under this old and corrupt company which can only do it good. Out with the old and in with the new. Keep the knife sharp Mr Hogan and keep on cutting out the dead wood. Maybe this old suckling cow can rise again depite past managements best efforts to suck it dry.

Surely didn't bmi have them when they started Transatlantic routes? (or still do?!!)
Little birdie has it that 13 out of the 15 or so bmi chefs have been to 'chat' with GF, so get your food on bmi while you can

A little bird tells me that these so called flying chefs ( they don't actually cook anything from what i understand) are all ex ansett boys. They are being accomodated in the elite apartments which is better accomodation than is offered to unacompanied captains for pitys sake. looks like jobs for the boys at the old gravy train of gulf air. a complete waste of time and money ( they are paid the same if not more than a flight senior) which will only drive morale down in an already very unhappy airline.
personally, i was hoping for a bit better from the first ex pat manager gulf air has had in a while. same old story.
Oh and apparently the new advert cost 7 million bucks. the brown envelopes must be being passed around.

Yes it true that a few In-flight chefs have applied to Gulf-Air, but to be Honest I think that they will realise that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and I think that they will be making a big mistake if they make the move, (especially if BMI get the routes out of LHR soon!). However, In-flight Chefs have been doing really well on the long-haul with BMI, (yes I am in the know!) It sounds like Hogan is very bitter about what happend with his previous job and wants to get his own back at Midland!!! (how much money will that cost Gulf I wonder!!)

Interesting concept but does anyone know how it will work in practice? For example, where does the "Flying Chef" fit in the chain of command; will they have undergone SEP training; and, where will they sit for take-off and landing? The idea has some merit, but may be full of pitfalls in an aircraft that does not have galleys specifically designed for this type of service.

Seniority in the cabin...? Why, number ONE of course. JAL had these many years ago, and what fine service it was, too.
A refreshing change...should shake-up the cabin service, altho in the "good 'ole days" was not bad at all. In fact, very good.

At BMI the chefs retain the same positions as other junior crew. for example. the chain of rank is, Cabin Service Manager ( 1 )
Flight Supervisors ( 2 )
In-flight Chef ( 1 )
Cabin Crew ( 6 )
That's how it is for the A 330 longhaul. Total (10).
As for the galleys well there fitted with 2 Skillets, 2x toaster, cappucino machines and ovens that can have dry or steam cook. and I have to say the that the quality of the food and its presentation is outstanding.
However if Gulf air wanted to fit this to there A 330 fleet, I'm sure it would cost a lot of dosh, (something I know Hogan loves to do).

If those chefs are indeed getting extra perks and are ex-Ansett, then I have to worry about the moral of the GF employees as well. Already JH is bringing in a lot of ex-Ansett people in and are getting paid big bucks, and I am sure a lot of people there are fuming already. JH better take care. The current employees are seeing tons of people being layed off, while a whole lot of Australians are comming in and being paid 5-10 times as much as the people who were let go.

No huge cost element - The chef is part of the flight crew numbers. A direct copy of what was done on the transatlantic bmi service. Hogan has just copied what was suggested he do at bmi. Some of the cronies that he brought with him are a waste of space. There will be tears!

Hi there,
this is nothing new in the sky... Remember that Lauda Air had their in-flight chefs looking after the biz-class (Amadeus class) pax since a long time on their Tripple-7`s to the Far-East.

The "business" on bmi is an experience not to be missed and can be summed up in one word: FANTASTIC.
