Just to be clear, the runway etc was match funded by Stobart, not paid for wholey by the LEP.

Off topic, but of local interest, I found a website with copies of old airline timetables.
In the late 1950's Silver City operated a summer service, three return trips on a Saturday, between Carlisle and IOM. As Carlisle Council did not purchase the airport until 1960, these flights were operated from Silloth. I believe they used the B170 Bristol Freighter.

Dan-Air used to operated a HS 748 between Newcastle, Carlisle and the Isle Of Man and a further service between Carlisle and Jersey for a number of years. Seem to remember Autair ran a service to London for a short time. There were other airlines as well that used to serve the airport.

Lets hope EGNC can learn from the USA where local airports exist for business flights and g/a! No need for passenger flights or terminal just a good FBO. If they could get approval for AFISO IFR approaches without ATC would be perfect! Highland and island airports manage!?
The USA doesn't really do public transport to the same level as the UK, and population density is much lower. I don't think Carlisle and an airport in a rural state in the USA are a particularly valid comparison

A few other scheduled airlines at Crosby over the years not yet mentioned.
BEA was first, transferring from Kingstown in Apr 1947, and flying Rapides to IOM, Belfast & Newcastle until Oct that year.
After the reopening of Crosby to schedules in the early 60s, Derby Airways variously flew to Belfast, Derby, Gatwick, Jersey & Guernsey between 1962-64, with DC-3, plus the odd C4 Argonaut and Mercury-operated Heron.
British United (CI) Airways succeeded Silver City on IOM route 1963-65 after latter merged with Jersey Airlines, still with DC-3s, and preceding the appearance of Dan-Air from 1966.
Intra Airways advertised a Viscount Jersey schedule in summer 1979, after Dan-Air gave up that route.
Air Ecosse appeared in 1982, initially with a twice-weekly Twin Otter fancifully routed ABZ-GLA-CAX-BWF(Barrow)-BLK-LPL, plus a weekly IOM service. After some variations, a DND-CAX-LHR Short 360 route was then flown from 1983-85, prior to Euroair taking it over.
Air Furness flew an IOM service by Islander for a while during 1987-88.
Newair briefly operated a London Biggin Hill route with a Jetstream 31 for a couple of months from Apr - Jun 1993.

Company called Lakeside Northwest too IIRC. Not forgetting the Gill Air mail flights, and visits from Balkan AN12, BD 737 and Pan Am 727 (Lockerbie related). Hopefully the airport gets.back on its feet as I believe its popular with the military

I fear it will be a long trip in a charabanc with a packed lunch for all.
Given they need to hand over nearly half a million to HMRC within 6 weeks they need to seriously cut back where they can.

Carlisle Emu and how to be Honoured
It says much for the professionalism of Stobart Air that it chooses to communicate to the wider world via Facebook.
What is said about the UK's Honours System by the award of an OBE to the senior Stobart employee who seemed to have no idea about the precise opening date of Carlisle Emu Airport is best not mused upon in an open, public forum.
Be interesting to know how many UK regional airports have shut down to passenger traffic in the way that Carlisle Emu has.
