Sorry if that’s not clear- but that’s pretty new!
Air China
Ethiopian
Qatar all in the north.
I was under the impression that Qatar would use south too, but they’re far too busy. North (level 2) is a ghost town after 2pm!

There are most certainly a load of spare check in desks. Indeed, Westjet’s is empty for the rest of the day once their flight(s) depart.
Air China moved their new LGW flight to LHR a few years back, are they really going 3 x daily to London?

With that announcement regarding the suspension of OAK from October 2018 I presume there is some some spare long haul capacity available, I wonder if BA are to announce a new destination to replace Oakland or increase frequencies on other routes ex LGW.

1-0 Norwegian for that route! Of course there is still gonna be a struggle for them elsewhere but I guess it shows BA can't squeeze them out of the market *that* easily, as long as they stay afloat.

BA only launched LGW to Oakland to compete directly with Norwegian and there's absolutely no need for them to start a route to San Francisco as the destination is well covered by the airline from LHR.
With regards to FLL, personally when ever I have been in Miami I've always thought I wish that I was in Ft Lauderdale, also the opposite when I'm in Ft Lauderdale I wish I was in Miami even though they are only 30 miles apart I never actually visited both together but since BA started FLL I can fly to one and out the other as both Ft Lauderdal and Miami are great destinations to visit and having flights from both airports makes it a lot easier to visit both, plus the fact that the company that I work for has business links with the two of them!

As the previous poster alluded to, BA's philosophy is an adaptation of the old BCal slogan: "We never forget you [often don't] have a choice".

On most routes from Heathrow and Gatwick there is plenty of choice. Norwegian may have newer planes but is prone to delays and cancellations as well as losing money all over the place.
BA is making money at Gatwick up against Norwegian and EasyJet. Extra 150 flights a week from Gatwick this summer. They must be doing something that most people want. Most people want good value fares, the right destination and frequency. Both BA and EasyJet offer that.

Vectisman: I agree with you in terms of pax and profit. I travel BA regularly and it's a regular occurrence to run out of food and drink. I don't eat or drink excessively, but finding there is not enough cheese or champagne on board and I've only had one glass and this is in first. This equates to poor.
