I think FR would be happy about STN closing at 5pm each night. It provides a perfect excuse to cancel or rebook pax to alternate flights without any EU261 compensation, at a time when load factor is extremely low

It won’t effect any Cargo or General Aviation. The AFRS are always changing depending on the needs of the airport. Most often they are on CAT7 anyway. They always have crew that can come in at short notice to up the cover level.

Surely Stansted followed Ryanair? I can’t see they would have closed the terminal if there were a decent number of flights scheduled in. The hours reflect those of the last lockdown. I think the only one that needed to change was Loganair who brought Derry forward to the afternoon.

Consolidate with the midday & bang on a 321 perhaps.

Sure they have enough aeroplanes anyway to advance the midnight to afternoons if required.

Don't different fire cover levels apply to freight vs pax?

Yes of couse , I was questioning whether the Londonderry flight was the only one needed to move though ?

I’d assume like last time it’s getting cancelled in any case. If essential travel only is permitted they aren’t going to have demand for more than one, if any. I think the TK flights have already stopped?

It doesn't. The NOTAM says so. CAT 7 RFFS REMAINS AVBL H24, UP TO CAT 10 RFFS AVBL UPON REQUEST. AIRLINES MUST HAVE PPR AND ENSURE GROUND HANDLING SUPPORT IS AVBL.

I thought not but "Upon Request" might affect any unplanned movements if they occur on these foggy evening/nights but the ability to take any diversions will be very low down on any priority list anyhow, not as if there are large numbers of heavys flying about currently.

Cargo aircraft can operate at reduced fire cover compared to passenger flights. Eg B777F is Cat 7 whereas B777 passenger is Cat 9. Reference is CAP168, Chapter 8, 8.19

Ryanair have apparently purchased the old EZY slots. A move to shut out any further Jet2 encroachment?

Appears as predicted previously witness a Ryanair strategy to always grow & expand out of a crisis.

The aeroplane formerly known as the MAX will be arriving in numbers in the New Year.

Looking at the ACL listing, it would appear to be the majority of slots, presumably apart from the now non-based EZY aircraft operating in.

Does this mean that FR will fly the routes U2 was flying or that it will use the slots to open up new routes from STN and increase frequencies on others(although with the coronavirus traffic slump that would be odd when everyone is downsizing and cutting routes and frequencies)

mario - I very much doubt that FR will be making full and genuine use of all the slots in S21 - there might be some ghost flights if the use-it-or-lose-it rule applies. Long term however (i.e. 2022 or 2023), it's probably a bit of all three of your suggestions

Certainly don't expect for Ryanair to suddenly add the volumes of EasyJet's previous network because of this.

There could well be some expansion, but the slot acquisition will mostly be about giving Ryanair the ability to further optimise its overall slot position, ie taking advantage of the first wave slots for based aircraft and more desirable daytime slots. They may well not use all of them or indeed could drop previous historics in favour of better timed ex EasyJet slots.
