Airline programme 15 July 2002
Did anyone else see the Airline programme on easyJet last night?
One of the stories centred on a woman who had booked a flight to Inverness and turned up at check in with baby twins in their car seats. As she was the only adult travelling, the check-in staff refused to check her in as each baby needs to sit on an adults lap. She then went to the Sales desk and they started discussing if it would be alright for another passenger to hold the baby on the flight, eventually they decided it wasn't and she had to go by train.
What I wondered was how she had managed to book her flight in the first place as on their web-site it stops you booking more than 1 infant for 1 adult.
Any thoughts on this?

The reason for this is not the fact she had 2 kids (although one feels sorry for her anyway!!)
but obviously the fact that there are only 4 oxygen masks per row
If there had been a spare seat and another pax could have sat in the row with spare seat with her, that would have been ok but at no time was the o2 situation explained
Still strange that the booking was was accepted though....

out of interest then:
does the computer only allow a certain amount of infants per flight?
do cabin crew on a full flight prevent 2 parents each with a child from sitting next to each other?
is this 4 masks per row thingy on all aircraft or just easyjet?

All aircraft types differ with regards to O2 masks. All types will have rows where there are 4 marks, some have all the extra masks down the left handside, others have row 1, 8 masks then row 2 will have 4 masks on the ABC side, row 3 has 4 masks on the DEF side and so on. So on a 3 + 3 abreast type aircraft you will always have at least 7 masks.
Extra masks would be used for the cabin crew or anyone not at their seat if there was a decompression.
most aircraft have 2-3 masks in the toilets and at the crew seats.
So on a 3 + 3 abreast aircraft type your example...
say 2 adults 2 infants this would be fine, but no one else would be able to sit in the spare seat. If you had 2 adults 1 child and 1 infant no they would not be able to sit on that side of the aircraft together, the aile would have to divide them, or they would/should be sat infront or behind.
I`m not sure why EasyJet and other airlines which do not except UM`S and a parent with 2 infants allow their Res systems to allow the pax to book as such. It would make their lives a lot easier if the system refused to book it.
As for check in. The flight will not close (the system will refuse to close the flight) if the number of paxs in a row is incorrect. The times it does close (when paxs are in wrong seats) is because the paxs have sat in the wrong seat or a group of paxs (ie large family group going on holiday for eg) have moved themselves around.
