Finnair will be probably the first flag carrier in the world to start weighing its passengers. No, it's not a joke, albeit the practice will be only voluntarily.
More details here, in YLE news.
Starting Tuesday, ticket holders for Finnair flights can volunteer to step on the scale at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. During the months of October and November the airline will be collecting data on the weight of passengers and their carry-on luggage.
Finnair said that it wants up-to-date data on plane loads based on its own networks and typical customers.

Years ago KLM used to weigh passengers on some aircraft types and routes, for example on a Super Constellation from Heathrow to (eventually) Idlewild. (In the days when JFK was still a Senator.)

I am sure a lot of airlines did back in the day with certain aircraft on certain routes but it's more or less unheard of today so I guess that is why the thread was started!
