"Self-connect" wizzair in Budapest

I come from Sweden (within Schengen) and will self-connect (no official connection) to Cyprus (outside Schengen). Wizzair both flights, no checked baggage. Same terminal both flights.

Connection time 90 minutes. Any comments?

What would the usual "connection" time be at Budapest Ferihegy airport?

Budapest Airport is straight forward and pleasant enough. Should be no major issues getting though it in a timely manner...

As far as I am aware since the demise of the national airline Malev, the airport has closed its connection facilities, and you have to go right through the airport as if you were arriving in Budapest as your final destination. Then go back through the airports security as a normal departing passenger.

Wizzair require you to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before the advetised departure time, so in essence you only have 60 minutes to get through the airport. Provided you arrive from Sweden on time, it is do-able and should be back in the departure lounge within 30 mins of leaving the first flight.

BUT like any Low Cost Carrier doing a self connect is a gamble, and only 90 minutes is cutting it very fine and would concern me. You connect on to the second flight at your own risk, Wizzair will be unlikely to offer you a replacement flight to Larnaca if the flight arriving into Budapest from Sweden is late. You will just be considered a no show!

I have considered using Wizzair to get to Dubai and would be travelling from Luton in the UK, so would mean a connection through one of their East European bases. I have been hesitant about doing it for the above reasons, even though the fares can be considerably cheaper than other airlines.

Yet another example of what a potential is hidden in connecting flights in the lcc sector as well. Most all these hesitating pax probably resign, hence selling some transfer tickets on carefully selected routes could boost sells of Wizz Air, Ryanair and similar carriers. So many people travel without checked luggage nowadays... That in fact could be a main condition here: who travels with cabin baggage only, can purchase the connecting flights officially. Here, the Swedish pax could be offered Cyprus too (sigh).
