Jet2 BFS- 86 new jobs

BBC News - Jet2 creates 86 new jobs at Belfast International Airport

Great news for both Jet2 and BFS. Though I'm wondering with some of the destinations listed, should be presume they'll base a 737-800 in BFS along with the 300?!

Have they any plans to replace the 30ish 737-300s?

Thumbs up

Incredible it took them this long to wake up to the lack of seats to LPA. The one or two flights (TOM/TCX -depending on time of year) that exist on this route are always full and are normally only available to "flight only" PAX in the last few weeks before they operate (as they are tied to tour operators allocations). Jet2.com are going to have great success with this route.

Did LS not fly to LPA in the past from Belfast, potentially during the winter?? Was it when they had a 757 based at Aldergrove??

They did. I think it was about five years ago. But LS very quickly abandoned LPA. The problem was that they introduced a big flying programme from 4 UK bases on B752s with very little notice for advanced ticket sales. Also there was not really any Jet2holidays in those days to help fill up the a/c. So the a/c flew empty and LS got their fingers burnt.

The programme has been building up slowly over the last few years. Starting with LBA, MAN and NCL with EMA and GLA added last year. Last year also saw Jet2 employ their own staff in LPA again. BFS was the only piece of the jigsaw missing (I doubt BLK or EDI will feature for LPA).

Must say the timing of the start of the BFS-LPA service is very odd. The Pride Maspalomas festival takes place from 8 - 17 May in Gran Canaria. It attracts over 120,000 people from all over the UK and Europe every year. Festival will be over by the time the Jet2 service starts on 26 May 2015 though. Definitely an opportunity missed but I guess the new a/c simply won't arrive in time.

JET2 BFS

Aircraft should be based from start of summer schedule as probably needed to cover the other new routes to FCO and PRG.
I agree JET2 should start earlier to LPA. Eight / nine months is a long time just to fill a weekly flight

Jet2 will now start BFS-LPA on the 12th May 2015.
