BBC News - Emirates cancels order for 70 Airbus A350s

Not good for A.B. or Rolls Royce!

Looks like EADs/AB aren't having a good day:

Coup dur pour Airbus : les portes de l'A380 ont un problème

The design of the A350 was changed in 2006 after potential customers were not impressed by the original plans.
I give AB a tip of the cap for the dialogue with their customer base as they developed this new bird. That can't have been cheap, as decisions go. (Love AB or hate them, A350 is a nice looking aircraft).
Emirates announced it had ordered 150 of Boeing's 777X planes at the Dubai Air Show last year.
That at least takes them off the list of suspects of "who stole MH370." No motive.

What better place to hide one 777 than amongst 150 more 777s?

Emirates placed 50 orders for the A350-900 and 20 for the A350-1000, with deliveries due from 2019.
Whatever happened to -100's & -200's etc. in this day and age?

Unfortunately, it’s rumoured that Emirates weren’t best pleased that Airbus modified the specification of the A350-1000 without talking to them first……..

Quite to what degree, if any, this is related to the cancellation can only be speculated on.

I guess they cancelled them at the same time they unexpectedly bought 50 A380s, and since then, Airbus have been trying to persuade them to take both.

FP, it's probably for the Chinese market where the number 8 is seen as lucky. Thinks B787-8, A350-8 and of course the A380.
