Vietnam Airlines

I've been asked by someone booked with them next year to find out what they are like, especially from a safety standpoint. Anyone have any details? People within the industry as well as passengers if possible please.

Took and internal flight with them this year. Very professional crew no complaints. Cannot remember the type of aircraft though

Done both internal and Asian regional flights with them. Biggest problem on internal flights is that they are liable to consolidate flights, especially HAN/SGN where they compete with JetStar and another local airline, at short notice. Flight crew most professional with a fair number of expat pilots/first officers - including on one occasion an English female Captain. Planes are mainly Airbus A320/321/330 and Boeing 777, with ATP on some internal flights to small local airports. Inflight service can be a bit hit and miss, although food and drink served on most flights.

Don't think they got the ATP, but if we say 12 x ATR72-212A then we are bit closer. All the Vietnam A320 are now either stored or gone to other operators, and so the only single aisle Airbus type is the A321, 46 of them. I'm not certain they are still operating the two Fokker 70 VN-A502/504 anymore, but I have found photos of the A502 taken in 2013.

Only used them within Vietnam on prop and jet services. Found them to be ok with quite a few expat aircrew. Have not had consolidation problems on any of my trips, but have heard of it, so it must happen. Generally a thumbs up, and would have no issue flying with them. Some of the airports can be a little more interesting in bad weather eg Con Dao.
