Arrow Go fantastic!!!! bmi a rip-off!!!!

I recently enquired with bith Go and bmi for a quote for a single flight from East Midlands to Edinburgh for the 1st August of this year.

bmi quoted me both by the phone and on the internet, £116.80 each way... what a rip-off!!! WHO IN THEIR WIGHT MIND WOULD FLY FOR THIS AMOUNT IN ECONOMY!!!!

GO, on the other hand quoted me £13.35 each way on the internet and I booked it!!!!

bmi are going to have to reduce their prices significantly if their ever going to compete with Go.... and what was all that about bmi introducinga new price structure for its flights... obviously for stupid people who haven't got a clue.

Just trust me!!!! Book with Go, because even bmibaby's flights are a rip-off despite them being supposedly low-cost!!!!!!

Good hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your problem with bmi

This is taken from there website today.

EMA - EDI - EMA 1/8/02

£35 return/full service

Taken from GO website today.

EMA - EDI - EMA 1/8/02

£30 return/no service

After buying a drink and possibly a sandwich they equal the same price.

Do you work for GO or have you been rejected by bmi.

Sounds like sour grapes to me!

Apples and pears come to mind when I read your comment on the EDI route - One offers a business schedule and the other not.
If you can travel at the Go times then...Go. I flew a few weeks ago with baby - it was great value.
Go are not cheaper, and believe me bmibaby do not operate in a cocoon..
Happy shopping around

Well, "Little Blue" clearly you havent got a clue about air travel
have you?

Do you by any chance work for bmi? Cos you seem to worship them like you live in one of their aircraft...

I bet you just go to EMA just to see bmi aircraft cos you can't get through the day without seeing one and you hate anyone saying anything bad about your baby.

In fact I've done some more enquiring and justify this..

Go -- EMA-PRG on 4th August -- 1 way is £32.50

bmibaby --- EMA-PRG on 4th August -- 1 way is £129.50

Let me guess... you still think bmibaby is cheaper cos you've never done GCSE maths at school

I'm afraid your findings are rather stupid and amateurish in which you are blind too!!!!!

Don't use this forum if you can't have anything decent to say about air travel.... and next time make sure you have evidence for other routes, like I have

Try not to get too drunk with ya anorak at EMA next time!!!

I think you have got your facts confused on prices SL.

bmibaby £54.50 oneway EMA-PRG 4/8/02

Go £34.00 oneway EMA-PRG 4/8/02

yes you are correct in saying that bmibaby is more expensive, but could that be down to the fact that they have sold more seats.

As we all know the less seats that are availiable, the higher the price.

I don't know what the links are but there were 2 interesting articals in the Sunday Mirror 12/5/02 and The Times 13/5/02, about Low Cost airlines and the fact that they are not as cheap as they make out, and that High cost airlines are infact cheaper.

SL - do you also post under a different alias on the airlinefun website? If so, I think Flying Frog might have hit the nail on the head some time ago..............

Get your facts right ..... one way with bmibaby to PRG on 04th Aug is £54.50. On their website you have to tick the one way box when enquiring about the fare ... otherwise you will enquire about going out and returning on the same day. It is also a well known fact that the prices on low costs go up as more seats are sold. bmibaby has been a huge success so far and has sold a third more seats than was expected so this could explain why bmibaby seems more expensive that Go.

I hope they both succeed at EMA and don't try to kill each other ... however I fear that it could all go Orange!!!!!!

SL, you appear to think the whole idea of lo-cost is to sell tickets at under £100?, erm dont think so mate, perhaps you will be good enough to point us to the business model or relevant company web page that states that fact so specifically

You can't assume that a return fare is double a single,it just doesn't work like that, you are obviously unfamiliar with the low
cost principle.
And your grammar is terrible too!

Simon.

And on 5th august and 6th august one way EMA to prague
baby £44.50 one way
go £55.00 one way
So where is the rip-off? What is important is choice for the consumer and that at last is available from EMA.

Hey, Simon???
Reckon that the comments following on from yr little..erm.."attack" have justified my original posting...
Yeah, I work for Midland, but that doesn't mean that I walk around with the bmi blinkers on.
I, like many of my collegues have booked flights with Go, at times when they can provide a cheaper fare than bmibaby, just as any likeminded traveller would do.
Swings and roundabouts, young man, swings and roundabouts !
Keep it real, boy !
...hey, there goes an Antonov !!!!

Did Ya get the Reg?

I think the more lowfares airlines around the better. Any sign of the Ryans invading EMA yet?

As for onboard service ....... you get what u pay for.

BMIBaby seem to be doing well, lets hope it stays that way. Are there still some A321s parked up i think in EMA?

Any sign of Prime doing any taxiruns yet?!

I see the freight terminal!! is doing very well with up to 5 A300s, 3B757s, 6B727s, few Electras, 747s and DC10 movements a night and the odd Belfast and Antonov.

Do you guys get cold spotting?

There's nothing wrong with BMI, those nice peeps in the Diamond Club have just sent me a shiny new gas BBQ in exchange for my club points.
Those of us who choose service over being hoodwinked into thinking we are flying with a "low cost", are quite happy thanks!

BTW - the missus tried to book Go in July from BFS-STN, and with the times that suited her, it worked out only £6 cheaper return than flying BHD-EMA. Taking into account distance (8miles to BHD, 25miles to BFS) and saving on car parking, it's not worth crying over the £6 saving. But when you consider the full service that BMI provide, sorry, superior service, I think it's worth it.

Stop fighting i mean it!!!!
You should all be grateful to have jobs in the present climate. I have worked for both Bmi and Go and if thats not enough another five in the last seven years only to be made redundant six out of seven times!!!!!
So grow up, they are both excellant airlines with fantastic staff, especially their flight deck.........SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THE UMEMPLOYED AMONG US reading this with our over inflated ego's.
Have a good summer, TED

To all you prune spotters,

Ok, I admit that I was wrong in the pricing... The reason why I thought this was because bmi had said in the Derby Eveining Telegraph and from other press statements that it was to introduce, "a new pricing structure... in which fares would now be quoted EACH WAY" and not return... I assume this was psychological pricing so the fares look cheaper... I don't know.

However, the prices bmi quote are returns which is fine because they do now look more competitive with Go now.

But you have got to admit that before bmi changed their pricing when Go came along, they were a rip-off to fly with. And, I think its also funny in the sense that when Go came along, bmi had to launch a low-cost airline... in which bmi had said that it had been planning a low-cost airline for the Midlands for the "past nine months." - which is a bit of coincidence.

bmi has had the past seven years to introduce a low cost airline in the Midlands (since low-cost travel tookoff with EZY from LTN in November 1995) and has never been bothered to do so. Instead, make big profits on its full-service... And in fact I am sure that since 1995, bmi has probably lost quite a few customers to EZY as it sjust down the M1 and the prices are more reasonable.

The fact that bmi have just introduced a "new fare structure" is like they're admitting that their prices were always too high really.

However, as an airline I do not really mind bmi... I have heard a lot of excellent comments about their in-flight service which is good.. which on that note makes me think, "Do you get what you pay for?"

Also, bmi have actually made their fares a lot more attractive now and I'm sure I will fly them in the near future.

Anyway, sorry for my pricing errors earlier.

Cheers.
