BA's base economy is £638, what are you comparing against?

The new trend is to spend as little as possible on flying to a destination
I love this, are you sure this is what you really meant to say?
So to be clear, it's being pitched at the budget conscious leisure traveller?

For dates in August, including bags, booze and food, London/JFK Norwegian are GBP 375 against BA at 874, according to Skyscanner. £500 should get a very reasonable dinner in New York.

Certain dates are priced at £300.70 return Plus Taxes?, Bags, Fuel Surcharge? and Credit Card Fee.

Some flights only 1 seat left so must be selling well unless a selling ploy.

BA available at £587 all in on their site for Aug. Bags, booze and food all in on several flights a day. So more than a match for the limiting twice a week schedule I think.

DY

All these routes will operate , just not on sale yet . All have performed well this summer

If memory serves me right some of these routes did not go on sale till after the main release last year

Did hear rumours of KGS, EFL, MAH , still to be announced on top of the 5 new routes announced today .

Does anyone know how many B738s are planned to based ex LGW for next summer

Also seems MAN base will be launched as Norwegian have said 2nd England base to open, and the fact MAN-AGP was very briefly showing as available from 24th June 2014 in GDS but has since disappeared again.

Bagso,

Why the LGW jealousy? There is obviously the demand from LGW too and let's not forget they have had a vastly larger operation than MAN for longer too.

Rome wasn't built in a day and MAN will have to prove itself on short haul basing before the vast investment of a long haul aircraft is put in, and MAN is not even a daily flight operation for Norwegian yet (winter only sees operations on Mon, Wed and Fri yet you expect a based B787?)

I would love MAN-LAX as much as the next person but to despair that LGW gets it before MAN, with the larger Norwegian operation and let's face it, the London market behind it, is just bonkers.

BA available at £587 all in on their site for Aug

What days Willie? I cant find that price or anywhere near. The cheapest prices on the BA website seem to be all with American Airlines.

I'd be surprised if LPL was chosen as a base.

Dropped from 3 weekly to 2 weekly, low loads and so far seems to stop on 28th March despite the fact EDI-CPH is bookable past this date and LPL/EDI share same aircraft from CPH on Mon/Fri.

I'm not saying a LPL base would never happen, but would be surprised.

Good luck to them with these long haul routes from LGW. I really hope they are a success.

Someone on the Luton thread has suggested they might fly from there. Could that be an option for a second base?

This quote from the Independent gives the answer:

Bjorn Kjos, chief executive of Norwegian, revealed the routes at a press conference in London today. He said that low-cost long-haul could work only as an extension of a successful short-haul network, and only with the right aircraft. "The fuel efficiency and also the utilisation of the Dreamliner are much better. If we fly the next best aircraft in the market the extra cost would be £5m a year."

Mr Kjos said that he expected many European travellers to fly to Gatwick in order to transfer to transatlantic flights: "People will 'self-connect'. I believe that's the future".

So British Airways, along with other carriers, becomes a short-haul feeder airline to Norwegian ?

It's hard to call if DY will be successful from LGW to the US, Take APD out of those rather cheep fares and do they have much profit when there own operating costs are taken out. Clearly its start off fares and they will climb. Hopefully they make a go of it but there own network out of LGW won't feed much passengers to the services.

Grrr

Luton rumour was posted last year by me.

Doubt if much will happen until AENA are confirmed as having taken over the airport. Monarch have yet to announce, but bookable, a huge expansion from Luton. Norwegian were certainly linked with a Bedfordshire base, but much has happened since then.

787-800 fully loaded could operate Luton LA direct, in fact Luton Hawaii is also possible.

Slots at Gatwick might limit Norwegian expansion long-term?

Manchester would seem an ideal 787 long haul base? From reading, the intention is to have 787 bases in the USA with routes to Asia and Europe, so in theory, they could fly Fort Lauderdale or New York to many UK airports?
