JAL Chairman: 100% Reliance on Boeing 'Abnormal'
Remarkable interview with this this JAL Chairman.
JAL never bought anything but Boeing/ Douglas since WW2, except a few A300 retired by now.
It seems everyone but the Japanese airlines see a VLA market at Narita; SQ, Malyasian, Korean, Lufthansa, Emirates, Thai, Air France, and Japanese carrier Skymark / British Airways will probably introduce them next year.
(BRE; VLA = Very Large Aircraft category, e.g. 747-8i, A380)

I prefer the acronym GA myself. It stands for Ginormous Aircraft and has the added benefit that it cannot possibly be confused with any other aviation-related acronym... Oh, wait...

Hmmm, M O'Leary of FR and H Kelleher of WN may disagree!

What about at HND: it's full of B747s on domestic routes and has 2 new rwys, surely it is A380 compliant? It's as good as NRT for onward connections within Japan and has links with adjacant countries, e.g. GMP, PEK, SHA and TSA, etc..

I may be slightly wide of the mark here....but I recall hearing that such was the disquiet in the US during the 80s regarding their trade deficit with Japan that the Japanese were literally buying US aircraft just to massage the figures!
As an aside, weren't the A300s a remanent of JALs takover of Japan Air System (JAS)??
