Does anyone have any concrete knowledge of current events surrounding the status of this project?

Granted many of Africa's airlines are doing a pretty lousy job (with notable exceptions for Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa apart) and there's money to be made, but all I've seen so far is a bit of public deal making.

Show me aircraft, show me operational staff in place and show me routes - until then it's all just a bit of a hazy dream.

True, but bear in mind the potential regulatory hurdles. The majority of effort in setting this up will undoubtedly be linked to obtaining traffic rights, etc..

Africa, unlike Europe, is not an open skies continent. This could explain why such an operation is not already up and running, let's face it, it's been needed for ages!

PS could do with something like this in the West Indies as well.
