BWIA finally signs A340 deal

BWIA after several false starts has recently signed an agreement to take 2 ex Air Canada A340s, one in June 2002, the other in Dec 2002.
As part of the changeover they will be wet leasing L-1011s from TAP (is that YES?)until the 340 operation is crewed up.
Supposedly they will be the last tier one operator of L-10s until Dec 2002.
I guess Lockheed will heave a sigh of relief when Dec 2002 rolls around.

Cool BWIA

That is the funnest company I'v seen. They have Dash8s, A340, L1011, Md83s & 737. Dose that Chine Man know anything about fleet commanility.

Cool

Cordy
Since CA has a lot of time at Air Canada on his resume, he knows about fleet commonality, the question is does he care?
There are also questions as to the logic in using BW resources to start a direct competitor (Tobago Express)
As you rightly say, it is definitely the "funnest"
airline for miles around.( Except for those who work there)

What on earth is a tiny Carribean airline going to do with an A340 anyway - start high density flights from Trinidad to Tobago - Last I heard of them they were struggling to keep a few MD 80 types in the air

The glorious 3*'s are daily visitors to LHR.

I think I heard a radio advert saying that they are the only airline to go to Havana direct from LHR.

See:

Landing at LHR

BTW.......is it a grapefruit on the tail/fuselage or a steel drum!??! Answers on a postcard....

I believe its Air Jamaica that is starting up the Havana route, direct from LHR

Unless you know different.

Dont worry, every ones just jealous of our inventory of manufacturers for an overall fleet of ......lets see.....just 14 aircraft!!!!
I think we've just about covered every one, don't cha 'tink....

It's a steel drum (or steel "pan") that is shown on the livery - the instrument was invented in Trinidad.

Actually there is a surprising amount of air traffic to/from Trinidad from what I understand - about 1.3 million people live there and many more expats living outside. Christmas and Carnival are high travel seasons.

Were these aircraft the same ones BWIA wanted awhile back when they were planning the ATL-POS route?

dewort - a beastly cold Stag for me

New terminal....

The new Terminal at Piarco is lovely, full of shops and stuff like that.

It will indeed accomodate an A-340, having easily done so with Canada 3000's A-330, every Wednesday until Nov. 12th.

Hang on, now I get it!!

The logo is a "pan", the green is the sea, and that funny yellow splodge on the belly is the sand. No great grapefruit, no iguana.

Now I wonder if the the A340s will fit those hangars at POS??
