JMC to close another UK base?
What is happening to the charter industry in the UK? Strong suspicions are that JMC Airlines will close its Newcastle crew base at the end of the winter timetable. Last week nine cabin staff were laid off, and these will not be taken on again for the summer 2002 season, leaving a dozen remaining. Surely this amount is not enough for the 15 plus flights programmed from Newcastle this summer.
If this decrease in business continues at NCL, the place will be a ghost town, leaving BY, AIH and Scandic as based charter carriers!

Expect casualties eslewhere. GLA in particular. .is losing thousands of charter pax annually.
Will the UK charter fleets eventually retreat into. .MAN, BHX and LGW.

Have I missed something? Low cost airlines only serve a tiny fraction of the charter market. There are no low costs to the Canaries, Greek Islands, Cyprus, Florida, Carribean, Malta, Turkey etc. OK so some damage done on the Balearics/Malaga/Faro but not a cause for major concern (yet)
