You can just about see the engine if you lean forward enough. Can also see the wing as well. Was on this flight back in Sep NCL-BRU-NCL.

I wonder if they're going to drop/reduce one of the existing MUC routes, to run SOU? (I feel that BRN might be that candidate).

Either that, or something more dramatic like switching the BRS route to be a MUC aircraft, but given that the flight times coincide, it seems unlikely.

As for LCY, can they not just sling a big rubber band out the back and hook it over the Gherkin as they fly past?

Had a wonderful CDG-BRS last night (although check-in had closed 4 minutes early), and the flight was 32/48, which always feels good. (Although the usual caveats about yield remain).

My understanding is that bmir is more or less acting as a slot warmer for Lufthansa as LH wants to avoid slots being taken up by LCCs now that Transavia is setting up shop at MUC. So it is an expansion rather than replacing an existing route with SOU. Quite a few new destinations have been mentioned in that context.

Hi all,

It's my understanding that a 3rd aircraft will be based in MUC.
Existing MUC destinations i.e BRN/RTM/BRS/BRQ will remain.

NorthEastener, thank you I was going to PM you to ask a few more questions but I couldn't quite work it out

I wonder if Bmir might be in the market for some more ERJ's? I think there's still a bit further they could go in terms of expansion, mainly to/from the UK but also throughout Europe. Maybe buy some ERJ's with reversers and get themselves into LCY... BRS-LCY anyone? :P

I think that they will look to increase loads on the existing aircraft before they purchase new ones.

The lack of a steep approach kit on the 135s would be a problem. The only one that was fitted with this had it taken out. I think it was ex airlinks operated from Ireland.
There was always a statement that they couldn't meet the performance even though luxair and the Irish one could. Don't think there is a credit for the reverser fitment on the 135.
They did wet lease a turboprop years ago to operate LCY from Leeds if memory serves but it was cut before it could develope. Seems to be a similar story more recently.

Was talk of new airframes prior to 2007 but still no sign. The 145s must be getting a bit leggy now.

New routes from Munich just announced, including Bergamo (IT), Norrkoping (SE), and Rostock (DK). No news on what happens to the existing route network out of MUC.

Also announced that bmi-r is going to operated BRU-NUE on behalf of SN. I guess that means that the aircraft currently running NCL/EMA will do an out-and-back-to NUE as part of its day.

Good to see some new business coming in, but it feels like the route-development strategy of bmi mainline is continuing in regional.

Out of interest with these recent route launches and the recent demise of the Airbus contract what does this do with the fleet position. ?

How many are going to be tied up daily and does it leave much wriggle room, could we be about to see them in the market for some second hand E-Jets ?

small correction: Rostock is North-East-Germany. A very remote area currently served twice weekly from MUC by LH. Also some Germanwings flights to CGN and STR. The bmir service will effectively double the number of weekly scheduled flights at Rostock airport as a whole (assuming LH will remove its own MUC service and put a codeshare onto bmir?!)

EMA will be operated by a BRU based aircraft. Operating

BRU-EMA-BRU-NUE-BRU-EMA-BRU

Does anyone know if BM plan to operate any other flights for SN using this aircraft as it will be on the ground from arriving in from EMA at 09:40 and departing for NUE at 15:20.

BMI Regional are starting a twice daily service from Nantes to Brussels on behalf of Brussels Airlines at the end of March. The aircraft will night-stop in Nantes.

Interesting. Now that the Lufthansa group got rid of all the affiliates operating 50 - 70 seaters, the bring back that type of operation in the disguise of bmir. They must be operating like 6 or 7 planes in co-operation with Lufthansa/Brussels Airlines by now.

As its nearing the end of the winter 2016 season, I would doubt it. Also, when I was at BMI, issues were present in that the EMB 135/145 jets were unsuitable for BHD due to lack of reverse thrust. Has this changed?

DC9 10...great name....fond memories of OH-LYB doing five Liverpool Heathrow returns per day. Talk about pocket rocket!!! Anyway, just finished 44 years 11 and a half months as a Controller, and I've seen an unbelievable change in aviation during four decades.
Southampton-Munich, I wish the airline all the very best. Watch out for a vulture sitting in a tree at Southampton; lets give it a made-up name purely at random such as Befly; lets remember that the West Country almost became an aviation desert, lets remember the old Plymouth operation, lets remember the operator diversity that Southampton once had. How come Southampton-Munich has become the flavour-of-the-month route all of a sudden? Why has another operator suddenly decided to jump on board at rock bottom prices, and will the route collapse and disappear if BMI give it up?
Just a discussion topic really......maybe I've seen it all before!

Flybe do love stting on any carrier who dares launch a route from SOU, a good example being SOU-BRU. Eastern used to serve it 3 daily on a J41, Flybe came in a flew it twice daily flooding the route with cheap seats. Eastern dropped the route, Flybe cut it to 5/6 weekly not long after and eventually dropped it as the timings were pretty useless. Eastern had another go more recently but apparently couldn't get good enough slots so the route has been unserved for the last few years.

I hope BMI Regional can sustain the route, and advertise it widely. Incidentally even the airport has only said the bare minimum about Flybe launching SOU-MUC, while they have been quite frequently promoting the BMI Regional route, suggesting they don't like Flybe's tactics either. BMI do have a number of advantages which will hopefully win over business travellers and connecting passengers.

Twice daily flights, around 30 minutes shorter flight time, free bags and snacks and of course the LH codeshare.

Alternatively, Flybe were part of the Regional Development fund bid this time last year, submitted with SOU (so maybe their tactics should be examined?). How long have BMir been planning the route?

I also wish BM the best of luck, they seem to be filling an excellent niche for themselves and I can't wait to try them in July NCL-BRU-NCL
