Etihad to bid for EIN

Etihad after Government's stake in Aer Lingus - RT News
What's the likely-hood this will come true, in the long run, I'm not sure how changing the Aer Lingus brand would go down in Ireland....

Why would they change the Aer Lingus brand?

Bear in mind this is only 25% of the company they're bidding for...

Can someone explain to me what Etihad would gain from a 25% stake in Aer Lingus ? I'm struggling to see why Etihad think it's worth spending the money for a minority stake. I find it difficult to believe that Aer lingus would be rebranded away from the current Irish image

Not forgetting that FR want to sell their stake too at the moment - so they could easily pick up a majority share-hold if FR are still wanting to sell!

If Etihad were to acquire a majority stake in Aer Lingus would they be able to keep the traffic rights from Ireland to the USA ?

Off topic here, but hey. Some time ago, I posted a comment which referenced the airline E T I H A D. The following day, I read the posting again and noted that the name appeared as 'Teahid'. I just presumed that I must have been rather more tired than I thought when I made the posting, although everything else was spelt correctly.

On this thread, I note that the same word crops up again in postings by several different contributors. Is there some monster spell-check sub-routine affecting this title in PPRuNe postings and altering the correct spelling? If so, please can we have the darned thing zapped? Thanks!

ADDED: Now here is an interesting observation (well, at least I think so!). When you press reply, the postings appearing below show this airline name with the correct spelling! But on the main thread it still appears as 'Teahid'. Are other users experiencing this, or is it perhaps an Apple Safari problem?

davidjohnson6: If EY were to acquire a majority stake in EI, the latter would cease to have the status of 'Community Carrier' and would lose all its traffic rights within the EU, including Irish domestic.

Thanks for that link, davidjohnson6. Quite the eye-opener! I hadn't heard anything about a lawsuit against PPRuNe ... all sounds very bizarre. At least I now know that my typing is slightly better than I had feared!

Market valuation of EI is about €320 Million. Thats small change, considering the pension black hole is €400 M.

Etihad are only after the LHR Slots.

gulfnews : Etihad to pass up Aer Lingus shares

Interesting it comes a shot time after Irish Gov said conditions to protect LHR slots would be part of the deal.

EI are currently in the process of biding for more slots at LHR.
