This may make sense to some:
What has been the attraction of Murcia Airport these last 10 years or so?
Basically the closeness to ex-pats' villas from Torrevieja coast line to the coast line of Mazarron.
What will be the attraction of Covera Airport over San Javier Airport(MJV)?
None at all, as in most cases villa owners will have to travel an extra 30 kms more or less to get to their holiday homes.

The ideal solution to Corvera Airport (another Spanish political economic blunder) is to give it to the military and and take over San Javier Airport (MJV), as the commercial airport.

Unfortunately Spanish political pride in Murcia City will prevail and probably AENA will take the compensation offered and MJV will close for commercial use.

Then Corvera Airport will be a total and complete flop, as Alicante Airport will be no further from Villa Land and with better options and prices for the passengers.

Corvera Airport may survive a couple of years if they are prepared to pay Ryan Air to fly there but the local Regional Government is in serious debt and couldn't afford that sort of money and the Aiport would never be able to meet that sort of dubious costs to keep commercially alive.

And so, Corvera Airport will join Castellon Airport recently inaugurated with great pomp and political ceremony (Cost 150 Million Euros, estimated building cost)but no airplane has landed there, as also Ciudad Real Airport, which boasts the landing and take off of one solitary airplane each week and so far has cost 1,100 million Euros to build and keep open........ Yes OK Lerida Airport as well, (90 million Euros estimated cost), another flop.......

There is too much political interest in closing San Javier in favour of Corvera now, regardless of what passenger or airlines opinion is, let alone common sense.

According to this article Murcia will be closing next year:
San Javier will close to civilian traffic and Corvera will be run by AENA | News | Simply Networking
