It would be a huge blow to Boeing if AMR/AA were to select A320NEO over B737's. A massive order like that for narrow body 320's could in the future influence the purchase of wide body Airbus models due to the cockpit similarities and therefore ease of conversion training. Yes I know ...... I'm probably stating the very obvious but isn't it a big selling point for Airbus?

This is probably a ploy to get Boeing to offer rock bottom prices for more 737NGs. After all the A32-neo production must be sold out for any decent timeframe that the American airlines would want delivery.

"How dare they do that and seek a low price from Boeing" or isn't that the standard riposte from the anti Ryanair brigade because its what FR have done.
