Doncaster Sheffield 2

I can't find DS1 thread so I thought I'd put this up:

1. Any news? Everything's gone so quiet since the news of the 19-year old's proposed AMS route.

2. What's the flight to Lourdes operated by ZT (Zambesi Airways?!) tomorrow?

Mods please delete if I've messed up.

Oo be careful how you word things - I bet some people were jumping for joy upon first reading that statement!

In seriousness though, the undercarriage of a light aircraft collapsed and a couple of flights were cancelled/bussed to another airport.

Bad News

HiAir website HiAir is now stating that the launch of there daily Jetsteam 31 operation from Doncaster-Sheffield to Amsterdam has been delayed until spring 2012. Hi Air were due to commence operations from September 5th for a 6 week trial period.

Nothing has been reported on the airports website as yet.

Don't think that's a surprise to anybody at all!

Any news on rumours that Wizz were supposed to be transferring flights to EMA?

The Amsterdam route will never get going.
Wizz have released a winter schedule that is an improvement on last winter at DSA, and have started loading next summers offerings as well, so I see no evidence of them going to EMA. If such a move did happen however, it would probably be the beginning of the end for DSA.

Thomson have a much reduced offering for next year, and FlyBe have cut back Belfast flights compared to what DSA is used to, and no new airlines even on the grape vine.

This Hi-Air is registered at a residential address in Lincoln, along with a number of other businesses.

Style Arrival Ltd
Paul Mabbot Electrical Ltd
Best Pay Ltd
Stephen Roberts Associates Ltd

Lets see how it pans out, but having used the easyjet DSA-AMS many times where I was one of maybe 3 or 4 passengers on the flight, I don't think its a particularly successful route. Now if KLM introduced a few flights into DSA, that would make all the difference, a gateway to the world!
I never understood why Aer Lingus never opened up it's full network when it ran flights out of DSA.

From experience, some solicitors will allow clients to use their address as a mailing address vs the solicitors office - not uncommon.

Hi L'aviateur

Average price for the entire season EZY operated the route was £21.99 each way!!! Sometimes it was less and obviously on the busier days alot more.

The flight was daily but operated in an afternoon slot which probably didn't help load factors/flight pricing out too much... Despite this however, the entire operation of the route had an overall everage flight Load Factor of around 65%.

The AMS flight was the 'weakest link' in EZY's operations from DSA. I flew Ryanair 7 times DSA-Girona, and it was without exception, full. When EZY moved in on DSA-BCN, Ryanair pulled their Girona flight. At the time I thought it was to teach Peel a lesson, but maybe it was partly due to Ryanair's ongoing argument with GRO, which has led to loads of routes being pulled. FR kept Alicante.

I flew DSA-BCN a couple of times with Easy, and all four flights were full and not cheap (though admittedly during school holidays). I wonder if Cazza Fly knows the LFs? When they pulled out, Ryan introduced Faro and Tenerife and I rather hoped they would do GRO again (unlikely due to the rows) or even BCN.

However this was at the time they expanded at Leeds and introduced a BCN route from there, so I suppose it would have been competition. So now the most convenient way is from MAN with Swiss! (Monarch's flight's too early).

The Load Factors on these flights averaged around 89% for the entire EZY DSA operation. So yes, definately a better performer for EZY especially when like you said the fares were generally much higher.

Ski flights

Does anyone know if DSA will be doing any ski flights in the near future via a low cost operation / not charter

I know they have done in the past but not sure on results

Noticed that Jet2's program of ski airports has dwindled slightly in its offerings

More bad news for DSA with the loss of FlyBe and the Belfast route.
The airport really needs a shot in the arm from somewhere.
