SAA in the news for the wrong reason

SAA Board sub-committee appoints KPMG for forensic audit

Johannesburg. 17 February 2009: A sub-committee established by the Board of South African Airways (SAA) has appointed KPMG’s Forensic Unit to conduct a forensic audit into allegations surrounding the airline.

The in-depth investigation will get under way immediately, and will probe the following issues:
  • The issue of retention premiums;
  • Alleged issues of a conflict of interest;
  • Issues of procurement
The Board has indicated that it views the allegations in a serious light, and that the investigation will be concluded as a matter of urgency while at the same time ensuring that it is thorough.

Issued on behalf of SAA’s Board of Directors

Coupled with yesterday's drugs bust and the recent controversy surrounding their CEO, it has been a pretty torrid few weeks for SAA.
