Post BA turns Riga flights to Heathrow

As of March 1, all Riga-London flights will be landing at Heathrow, BA announced today. I don't have a problem with that, but most BA-GB flights for "fun in the sun" flights originate in Gatwick.

The shuttle-bus connection between the two airports is quite expensive and BA only pays for it if you're on a long-haul flight. I don't know how BA is going to compensate for this.

Just yesterday, Ryan Air announced that they were soon ready to move into the Baltics of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. Meanwhile, Britania is taking a large number of tourists out of Stockholm on charters. A Riga-Stockholm ferry ticket costs about $90 round trip.

I don't know, but unless all the southern European BA flights are changed to Heathrow, it's going to be a big drop in customers from Riga, except those that actually want to go to London. Last year BA reported 57,600 fare paying passengers on the RIX-LGW run.

Nope, totally wrong. Although BA lost its Carribean connections out of LGW and some western US detinations, move from LGW to LHR is only for the benefit of BA customers from Latvia.
In addition to this, wef winter schedule BA will move back to where it already once was timewise with early morning departures out of RIX arriving in LHR at 08:35 giving plenty of connections out of LHR + possibility to catch morning departures from LGW as well. Leave from RIX at 07:45 and arrive in JFK at already 09:35 on supersonic... Who else can do that???

Interested in more details? PM me!

Very much at LHR, and very full too!

Operated one last week, charming friendly people, v v pretty city,
and my goodness do they like a drink ?!!!!!

Crew hotel fab on arrival, but bedrooms must be at least 100ó c!,
only letdown

If you fancy somewhere new, very upcoming friendly and quaint ,
head for Riga, (before the stag party brigade get to hear about it!) Great crew shop too!

I just took BA from MIA/RIX via LHR the 3rd week in July. and I have to admit, the connection via LHR is much more difficult than the old one through LGW. The change of terminals, etc is a real hassell.

I understand LatviaCalling viewpoint re: flights to Spain, etc., however I do appreciate the mid morning departures out of RIX. The 0745 departure tends to turn your last night in Latvia into an all nighter...
