KLM Cityhopper today announced an order for 10 Embraer 190 aircraft plus 9 options to start replacing their fokker F100 fleet. They will retire 15 of their older F100s next year, these will be replaced by the E190s plus 5 Fokker F70 aircraft aquired from Air France regional.

In the order are also E170's which will go to Régional in order to replace the F70's that go to KL Cityhopper.

Quite a few - 737, 747, 767 (have they any left?), 777, MD11, A330, F50, F70 and the F100 are the ones off the top of my head. The only 'major' types not operated by them historically are the 757 and the A320 family.

ADS-B

Although the Embraer 190 is a newer, more advanced machine compared with the Fokker 100...in this regard the old Fokker is potentially better kitted out.

The great majority of the KLM F100s and F70 have Mode-S transponders coupled to ADS-B - at present I know of no Embarer airframes that are so equipped. Will KLM be the first? Certainly Air France Regional haven't got ADS-B on their Embraer 190s registered in the F-HBLx series.

So does this mean that, at some point, I'll be able to look forward to an Embraer for my NWI - AMS?

Must admit though, for a small aircraft the F100 isn't bad - did STN - TGL on one 18 months ago and got a Row 1 seat - sat back in the seat I could only just reach the bulkhead with my feet!

E 190

.....'fraid not, for a while.

the plan is that the E190 will be phased in over the coming few years, on the more distant, high traffic load routes like Riga, Tallin, Trondheim, etc. NWI will remain primarily a F70 destination (with 1 F50 rotation thrown in for fun )

Obviously there might be the odd day when the E190 comes in cos things have gone wrong with the fokkers

Better have the extra leg space when flying the 100 to Papua New Guinea... I take it you were on an ST-operated AB flight to TXL?
