CWL GLA still showing as a daily service on the BMIBaby website although flight times all over the shop!

Good news re Wawsaw and Gdansk - if they prove as popular as expected should see an increase in frequency from 3 and 2 x weekly.

BFS was always going to be an issue with BE operating to BHD too. May work to CWL's advantage as CDG is doing well for them to boosting loads in the CWL BHD sectors may well get them to look at expanding their CWL operation sooner rather than later. CWL GLA must be a strong candidate - ideal route to the q400 cax wise

They must be updating the site as we speak, i was just looking at it but on some days the GLA had dissapaeard but now their back again.

I am glad that they are using their initiative and placing an extra 3 flights on Friday the 8th Feb and Sun 10th of Feb.

This would depend on whether or not a 4th a/c could be coming to CWL otherwise we'd it at an expense of other routes.

I could see Flybe doing a GLA it was rumoured on wikipedia but suddenly dissapeard after everyone spotted it

Glad to see bmibaby showing some initative at Cardiff with the Polish routes but why oh why do we have to see cuts in other routes to make space for new ones? The timetable was already pretty sparse to begin with. But on the BFS front what a coup for Flybe! Now they are the main carrier for business pax on the Belfast routes so maybe this could boost them a bit?

I gotta be totally honest i am not suprised that BmiBaby has reduced BFS to Once daily. Usually it operates with only 60 pax on board so it can't be a moneymaker for WW.

What i am suprised at is that WW hadn't re-introduced the 2 x Daily GLA as that was slightly less busier than the EDI service. Plus the rugby matches such as the Magners league and 6 nations it was a very popular service.

I hope Flybe start operating a GLA service as i'm sure with a schedule that would suit business travelers, there shouldn't be any problem filling the DH8-Q400's.

Cardiff doesn't have too much to worry about, it will always make it's money out of diversions from the landing strip across the water that was specifically built there to teach military pilots to operate in cr@p weather
Philias would like to apologise to the BRS forumites who were upset by his remarks and thanks all the BRS team for thier hard work in accepting CWL and BOH's diverts today! Pat on the back guys!

Anyone else heard rumours of a proposed LET 410 operator (I'd imagine a ticketing agent like Manx2) to start services between CWL and MAN or LPL? I've been realiably informed that they are a new start up and not an existing airline/ticketing agent.

A friend of mine who is looking for his first job in the RHS said he came across a bloke who was doing a type rating for the LET in preparation for this new start up based at CWL. That's all I really know.

The aircraft seem to be getting smaller at the airport not bigger

AT72/AT42/J41/J31/DH8

Theese all take up stand space which could be used by a bigger carrier. If the LET rumour is true, wouldn't they need to have more than either MAN or LPL (or would they do both)?

Surely it's not the size of the plane that matters - it's whether a service makes money. That is what makes a route sustainable!

A statement was made earlier that the Belfast route only had 60 odd passengers average but if they were business passengers who booked late and paid higher fares then the route might still make a profit.
Don't assume that low loads and small planes necessarily means bad news all round! With the proposed changes in aviation tax from November 2009 smaller planes with little or no empty seats might be a better way to go!!

True,for the airlines.
But for the airport, surely passenger throughput means more?
The more passengers, the more made on retail, etc which is where the money is for the airport.
Also, the bigger the aircraft, the higher the landing/parking/handling fee's

Bring back Air Wales. A similar size operation, routes such as LPL/MAN/NCL/ABZ/DUB/ORK/INV/LCY/BRU could work with the right plan!!

Agreed - but as my Mum would say "You can have eyes bigger than your stomach"!

The airport will make much of its money from the passengers rather than the airlines. But as they will often offer "discount deals" to entice airlines to start new routes they will lose out if the routes don't survive long term - hence my comments on sustainability.

As you note at the end an airline such as Air Wales running smaller planes on profitable routes makes sense. However the demise of Air Wales and others before it may suggest that a profitable demand for some of your listed routes may not exist.

Looks like the Vancouver flight is ending but all is not lost as there may be a possibility that Zoom may do a x2 weekly flight to/from Toronto. Much better than the B757 that will operate ex BRS (if it does go ahead). It wouldnt be a suprise if flights were with the B757 and B767.

With no CWL-PRG route by BMI baby, surely Thomsonfly should jump in here with one of their B737's at CWL. Big market for PRG and was really popular.

Great to see WAW & GDN appear on the destination board - nice change from PMI, PMI or even PMI !!!!!

No Balkan to PDV this winter either..............another loss for CWL

Summer 2008 should be fun with the MYT/TCX and TOM/FCA mergers, lets hope we have a few more exotic destinations this year !

Let me get this right. You believe a provincial rugby competition (with how many fixtures ?) and an annual venue-alternating sporting event is enough to support a route ?.

Im not sure I understand the point at all. Why are you surprised that they hadnt reintroduced a route that was less busy than EDI ?

Because the average passenger number per flight was higher than it has been for BFS.

Looks as though Thomsonfly have axed CWL-BCN from 20 November onwards. The flight cannot be booked online.
