Apologies for waking up a very dormant thread, but does anyone know what Air Moldova are doing with their Embraer 120 ? I ask because I think it's the only remaining E-120 used for ordinary commercial scheduled passenger flights in Europe on daily basis - the only other operator I can find is Trade Air who operate a rather limited service for Croatia Airlines.

It looks as if Air Moldova's E-120 is being taken out of commercial service effective 28-Feb-2015, but I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who has better information.

Some lovely old villages and some beautiful women, good food too and ultra-cheap. All a bit tatty though (the villages and in some cases the women!) I believe it's the poorest country in Europe, even behind Albania.

An ex-colleague of mine who's a complete bull****ter, been everywhere done everything, told me that Moldova has wonderful beaches. I said perhaps he was getting confused with Romania ......... tosser.

There is a very entertaining book worth reading, by Tony Hawkes, called 'Playing the Moldavians at Tennis'. Very funny and quite informative.

Thanks for the advice Capetonian. I am actually going to Chisinau, by way of Bucahrest in a few weeks.

I've got a day spare, is it worth taking the trip to Transistria? PM if you have any other good tips about Moldova.

I was tempted to use the STN-KIV service which appears to still be going strong nearly 8 years after it was launched so that is a good sign, but it was just too pricey, so FR are taking me to OTP and after a few days there, RO take me to KIV instead.

Could I very gently nudge people back towards the topic of Air Moldova rather than general tourism in Moldova ?

surely they are the same......

just like "Singapore Girl" was important in promoting a rather small, flat, boring spot in the tropics.................... which is now one of the top 3 tourist destinations in the world..................

Will be sad to see the EMB-120 retired. Flew on it BUH-KIV a couple of years ago: very nice. Moldova is indeed lovely, though be very careful in Transnistria. In fact, don't go to Transnistria if you don't speak some Russian. On the other hand, do NOT speak Russian in Moldova. They speak Romanian, which is similar to French/Italian. Air Moldova is good, and, on the BUH-KIV route, in my experience, more likely to be on time than Tarom.
