I understand they were also looking at Saab 340's. Quite a few around at the mo, possibly going quite cheap although alot of the older examples are being converted to freighters

"This is very much Birmingham's own airline and we want local people to have the chance to have a stake in its success. We are calling it ‘Birmingham European so the city and the West Midlands can take a pride in their own airline."

How about Airfix?

I wonder if it'll take them aslong as Flywho to begin ops out of Brum

If they ever do begin, I wonder if we'll see the return of previous destinations from Brum such as Billund, Eindhoven, Le Havre, Exeter & others such as Kerry, Waterford, Southampton & Plymouth

BEA - Current Situation

Thanks to everyone for the continued interest in Birmingham European Airways.

Yes plans are still being progressed but getting the levels of finance together to be able to start with the right level of investment is taking longer than expected.

Unlike Flywho, we have not announced start dates, ect until we are fully happy that we can do what we say. We fully understand the negative impact that going public too early can have.

We have identified a range of destinations (both those that have been served in the past and new destinations) that will suit our type of operation.

You can perhaps understand how frustrating it is for us not to be able to promote our new airline, but we must sit on our hands until all the pieces are in place.

PS. Billund is currently served by BA/Sun-Air, so not on our list.

Who exactly is Andrew Jones, one of the founders of BEA, and described as an 'airline veteran'? Surely no relation to Trefor!

Current position

A bit of Googling will give you a link to the website, which is just a holding page at the moment (As PPrune don't like you to post direct links).

We are still proceeding with the business plan and are in discussions with potential (serious) investors at the moment. Unfortunately these discussions have taken much longer than we expected but we are still confident of a go-ahead.

If you require any further information, either PM here or send a message via the link on the website.

BBC News Article

With reference to the link to the BBC news article.

The Directors of BEA were well aware of these “alleged” accusations prior to the gentleman concerned becoming involved with BEA, he was involved as a consultant with the airline in the area of finding investors (not Financial Director), and that none of these accusations have any relevance to the work performed for BEA.

Does this not sound familiar - was there not a Birmigham Executive operating Jetstream 31's in the dim and distant past?

Hi. Yes Birmingham Executive started with J31's back in June 1983, moving up through SF340, GI's, SD3-60 to 1-11's, changing their name to Birmingham European, then Brymon European, before becoming a BA franchise.
