Im supprised this has remained so quiet

Prague & Copenhagen with United Travel 30 May 2006
Galway Airport is delighted to announce that United Travel will commence the first jet charter services from Galway Airport to Prague and Copenhagen, from early winter 2006.

This exciting new service will commence on Friday September 15 and initially run for eight weeks, using a 93 seat four engine jet aircraft. The aircraft will depart Galway on Mondays and Fridays to both destinations allowing three night weekend packages or four night midweek breaks.

Con Murphy, Managing Director, United Travel said “following extensive market research we are confident that these two new destinations from Galway will be well received. Prague is a very beautiful city. With some six hundred years of architecture it is a very popular destination with an ambience all of its own. Copenhagen on the other hand is small and welcoming, it’s a place where people rather than cars set the pace, amenable and relaxed, it also offers a huge range of entertainment, at night there is plenty of cosy bars with live-music as well as a range of cultural attractions, including major national museums, a selection of magical art galleries, performing arts events and one of Europe’s most interesting film scenes. We have specially tailored packages from Galway including four-star accommodation, flights and airport transfers.”

Michael Corless, Chairman, Galway Airport said today’s announcement by United Travel is a unique new development. Over the last number of years we have worked on developing Galway Airport as a convenient hassle-free airport offering direct access to the UK and Europe. This latest announcement in association with United Travel offers additional direct access to two of Europe’s most popular city destinations. I would like to warmly welcome Con Murphy, and his team at United Travel to Galway Airport and look forward to working with him to further develop charter business from Galway in the future.

Not wishing to take away from this announcement, but United Travel are not famous for the actually operating some of the charters they announce. Case in point Cork to Bahrain in 2004, and in a big press reception at the time they also announced plans to operate Cork to Lebanon, Rio de Janerio, South Africa - All of which came to nothing. I hope it does work for Galway Airports sake as they have had a few false starts in the past.

Red face Ryan 2000

Sounds as if they've sourced a Danish 146. In fairness this operators Santa flights from Cork to Lapland did work. Prague at weekends might just work as there are no competition from SNN or NOC but I'd be doubtful about Copenhagen. Best of luck to Galway. However you should build an airport capable of taking 737's and 320's.

Galway is just too covenient to DUB via Citylink bus for these charters to fill up unless they are operated at real cut rate pricing. After all, their competition will be Ryanair and Aer Lings.
