Thumbs up Aer Lingus A350 order imminent!

Aer Lingus is expected to confirm an order for 12 A350s within the next few weeks (possibility of announcement at next week's Dubai Air Show).

The new aircraft will be delivered from around 2011-12, so it will be interesting to see what Airbus has proposed as a "bridging fleet" until then. With Open Skies on the horizon, EI needs new capacity beginning next Winter.

Most rumours leading up to the long haul order have centred on the 787 and even the 777, but as nice as a Boeing order would have been, I don't think this can be seen as a big surprise. Purely speculation, but I would think that the "interim" proposals would have been a big factor in the EI decision.

No doubt we'll hear more in the near future.

Cool

Explains all the "Airbus A350 - the world's most advanced twin engined airliner" posters which have taken over the advertising hoardings at Dublin Airport in the last few weeks. i presume the "Airbus House Colours" aircraft will be replaced with a green one after the announcement. Or are EI due a new livery change by 2011? Maybe white with blue underside and wavy red and blue on the tail

This has been reported on the Orders yahoo group, usually a good source of info. Nothing positive as yet, but more details will more than likely emerge next week, at Dubai.

EI certainly needs its service standards revised and reviewed and it needs to do that sooner rather than later, particularly if it plans to expand eastwards. However, recent t/a reports have been positive, so let's hope this trend continue. They need to work on crew morale, update the IFE and generally, "hustle". They can be a very good airline if they put their minds to it.

Let's hope we hear something positive over the coming weeks. The A350 would seem like a sensible choice, given that it is a common rating with the A330 which I didn't realise was going to be the case. This alone will save AL lots of money, training time and headaches.

The waiting time for 1st delivery is the only problem. It's the interim plan, like you say, that'll be most interesting thing when/if the announcement is made.

Its' hardly a surprise that EI are gong to buy the A350, it will suit their current fleet and crew raiting, etc. I suspect the biggest reason for the order was that EI would have had to wait untill at least 2012/13 for 787s and the intrim fleets would probably be clapped out 767s.

Does any one know if EI are going to order any more A32X's for europe? Now that the final A320s have been delivered will EI exercise its options at the same time as it places the order for the A350?
