BMI Manchester gets 767 loses A330

BMI to send another A330 from manchester down to Heathrow and replace with a 767 from january. Only one A330 left then, looks like another nail in the coffin of BMI manchester longhaul!!!!

Question

lexxity
I would think that the extra A330 at LHR, will be operating more flights to India.

I was at Manchester on Monday. The 757 going to Washington had a very poor load so no 767 needed there anyway.

Base meeting manchester yesterday with the big wigs. Manchester to lose A330 in order for it to go to LHR (therefore 2 A/C) and MAN to get 767 to operate Caribbean. The remaining A330 at MAN to continue ORD. All set to happen in january!!!

It's down to the fact that the 330s are due heavy maintenance shortly (going to Manila I think) and a replacement aircraft is required to fill the gap.

It won't be Icelandair as they'll then be exposed on their KEF - SFO route.

I'm pretty sure a 75' won't make that non stop

Will the 767 make LAS, i think not. I understand that bmi ops are not happy with the idea as the A/C performance is not what they are used too.

At this point, could somebody please explain some BMI logic for me. I know, I know, that's a contradiction in terms, but try anyway...

The costs of moving an A330 to LHR and basing it there for the Mumbai services when the fleet had previously been used solely at MAN must have been crazy. Were there any sound reasons for not keeping the a/c ooop north and operating a daily MAN-LHR-BOM-LHR-MAN rotation? It would have opened up both MAN and LHR to the services and it might also have brought on some juicy extra capacity between LHR and MAN during peak times?

Ta,

*j*

maybe because the aim was/is to do a daily service

MAN-LHR-BOM-LHR-MAN could not realistically be achieved in a 24 hour period

..and why complicate things with a Manchester sector anyway?

jamesbrown

flogging a 330 on MAN-LHR sector length makes no sense to anyone with a brain.

Which of course excludes the Irish Department of Transport, whose policies keep 330s flogging the DUB-SNN route...
