According to The Guardian BA are to raise their fuel surcharge again. Article quotes BA as saying fuel costs have gone up 400% since December 2001.

Only following on from Virgin who raised theirs to £60 earlier in the week.
It's a damn shame especially for those of us lucky enough to have staff travel.
Can't see the punters taking a hit like that for too long.

On a seperate issue, how are Ryanair managing to avoid adding a fuel surcharge? I thought it must be sneaking on to their final ticket prices but seeing what a lot of flights sell for it can't be

Fargoo:

The fuel surcharge applies only to long-haul with BA: Ryanair is a short-haul carrier (so far).

More to the point, RYR like other LOCOs has a variable fare structure, so to defray extra costs they simply up the average fares being charged.

Just been on to book a flight and noted the following in the price breakdown box:

The price of your ticket includes a security and insurance surcharge and a fuel surcharge per sector levied by the carrier. It may also include an online booking fee per passenger per ticket. For details please click here.

On clicking this reveals that the fuel surcharge is £8 per sector for domestic and European flights and £24 for elsewhere, so still to be updated to take into account the latest increase.

Going from the press reports, the increased surcharge will only effect long haul and from 12th September.

....and only for "new" bookings I hear. So, if you have a ticket already, for flights after 12/9, you have no additional increase.

Well when petrol for the car is reaching £1.00 per litre Im not bleedin surprised the airlines are hiking their surcharges!!! Something needs to be done at a political level to get the prices down!
