Doncaster is confirmed, FR were looking at at a choice of 2 bases in the UK and the other airport deal has gone pear shaped
FR won't make a decision on where a new base will be until a couple of days before hand

All of this is pure speculation, and should usually be taken with a big pinch - if not truckload - of salt, although there have been occasions when PPRuNers have predicted correctly where airlines were going to open up bases or launch new routes even when others laughed at their ideas!
Ryanair have been known to have sniffed around EMA, although the competency of the management team there as well as that of the parent company MAG makes me extremely sceptical for such a base to be established. Perhaps this is where The_Bean_Counter got his idea that the deal with one airport went pear-shaped, as Ryanair have always had a bit of a troubled relationship with the Manchester Airports Group.
DSA seems to be a good idea as a new base. FR have a good relationship with Peel from their new successful base at Liverpool, and no doubt the airline would be given an excellent deal to attract more flights into DSA, as I'm sure the airport cannot rely on Thomsonfly alone.
Time will tell ...

MOL quoted in Feb:
"We'd like to see DSA go up to 3x daily on the DUB route, then we might look at opening up a base there."
TOM have shied away from DSA to DUB, and unfortunately do seem to have had a few reliability probs at DSA. Putting that aside, they are otherwise at the other end of the no frills scale to FR (assigned seating, some effort to help if late, mainly use primary airports in holiday cities), so I can't see why there wouldn't be room in DSA's growth plans for FR and TOM.
There are plenty of cities / regions where FR and TOM might serve the same market in different ways - just like EZ operate from LPL to BCN, and FR fly to GRO and REU.
I think an EZ base would be much more of a threat to TOM, whereas FR will grow the market as much as they will suck pax from TOM.
Judging by the airport's pax numbers so far, there's plenty of room for both, and I'd expect to see lots more yellow harps complementing the green arrows in the not too distant future.

New FR base at NEMA
With NEMA being only 50 miles from Doncaster, does this mean that the proposed 4 FR aircraft base here next year has been put on hold, or passed up altogether. Is this the usual playing off, of one airport against another.

Ryanair were advertising in the local donny rag this week for Cabin Crew.....it doesnot take a rocket scientist to work out why.

Ryanair do have two bases separated by 25nm. Luton and Stansted, but they do serve the huge conurbation that is London, the northern home counties, the east of England and the south midlands.
I would guess that many more folk live with 45min of East Midlands than Robin Hood?
If the M1 is clear, I can drive from Whipsnade to EMA in 80min, it is, after all only 85 miles, Whipsnade to Gatwick is 73 miles. (Finningley is 140 miles).

new ryan base
Looks as if the new base is HUY. Must admit I am surprised. My information was well founded. I still think there is a DSA connection though, but only time will tell.
