New routes from EXT

Hey all. Does anyone know of any new routes rumoured to be starting from EXT - what with the sale and all. Flybe poss starting AMS, dropping the BES? Anyone know anything about any long haul that EXT can handle but BRS cannot - what about Orlando?

Flybe will be adding CMF/GVA/MJV for winter. BES is dropped. GLA to be double daily flight. No word on S06 yet.

Charter seems to be same as usual with no long haul shown, but with VRN and Bulgaria showing for S06.

Fingers crossed for the future

GLA to be double daily flight
That would be great as I use the service alot!

Has it actual been confirmed as I know the will be adding 250,000 more seats on the route and I have read this in an article at www.thisisexeter.co.uk or www.thisisplymouth.co.uk and remember seeeing somewhere that they would be using a bigger aircraft on the route (probaly BAE-146)

Alao heard:

Leeds/Bradford will be downgarded to a Q400. (NOT 100% SURE)

Does anyone have an idea on the loads on the BES route?

CAA stats show monthly pax loads for Exeter-Brest:

April 1940; May 2187; June 2340.

If you know how many rotations are flown each month you can work out the average load.

Have you put too many noughts on the figures for extra Glasgow seats? 250,000 equates to nearly 700 extra pax a day or, put another way, would require an extra four 146 rotations each day.

javier

Until the summer 06 timetable comes out no-one outside the airline would be likely to know. However, if the route is a success, and I am sure it will be, I would think it highly likely that it would continue through the summer.

As of October all BE flights from EXT will be either Q400s or the 73s, no more 146s (being replaced by the incoming EMBs). Pax loads on the BES are about 100-130 at the moment but 50-80 out of season.
Maybe BE thinking about getting another 73 to do the EDI and GLA 2x daily?

If average loads on EXT-BES are 100-plus 'at the moment' they must have nearly doubled since June when they averaged around 56. There are five rotations per week - M, W, F, Sa, Su.

As for the GLA and EDI routes the latest CAA domestic figures available are for May. In that month EXT-GLA carried 3918 pax (average load 63 on one daily rotation) and EXT-EDI carried 6998 pax (average load 60 on double daily rotations except Sats when single rotation).

Although the main summer months will doubtless see improved loads perhaps a 737 would be a little ambitious at this stage and would be better used elsewhere.

I was under the impression that BES was a summer only route (like wise from SOU) I believe BHX is carrying twice weekly into winter. I wouldn't say that it is being dropped and for a first season it has performed better than I expected. I think a route to Nantes or Rennes would be better supported as it is less peripheral than BES, but it seems to have held its own.

Glad to hear it. In that case there should be no worries about the route returning next summer.

Anyone got any suggestions for routes they would like to see develop? Never know - might get Flybe in here browsing. Also - anyone got any info on the sale?
Ryanair / Easy - please can you come to EXT and challenge BEs "low" fares - if you can get round the anti-competitive agreements they got going on there...

This link will take you to another thread on this MB re the sale of EXT with the latest position as far as is known.

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...exeter+airport

I thought that Flybe was extremely popular at EXT. The loads on most of their routes suggest this.

What do you think of EXT and BRS coming under the same ownership (if indeed the competition authorities allow it to happen)? Do you think that would lead to a lot more routes from EXT or would it be better for the airport to be bought by someone not connected with BRS?

Well, with all the nice little agreements going on between EXT adn Flybe (hence why no EZY there) if the airport is sold to BRS then the flybe stuff prob wont change. However, the charter side of things will prob decrease - to increase the loads at BRS. Alternativly, the little EXT-Flybe agreement might break down, they BRS-EZY affiliation might transfer to EXT, and the establishment of more charter aircraft in the south-west mite lead to EXT launching the long haul charters that BRS cant handle.
Personally though, i would prefer it were sold to a non-BRS linked company - then what disinsentive can they have for encouraging growth of EXT?

For what it's worth I think a joint ownership would work more in favour of EXT than BRS.

I can't see easyJet transferring its operations from BRS to EXT because the latter's catchment area is so much smaller. I could see EXT receiving the odd easyJet flight from another base in the way that BOH is about to be serviced by a GVA-based a/c.

Where I think EXT might score is in what you suggest - long haul charters. If the same company owns both EXT and BRS why would they bother to waste too much time trying to fly out of Lulsgate when they had a more suitable runway just down the road?

On the other hand if someone else owns EXT the BRS management would fight tooth and nail to secure such flights over a rival airport even if it meant making offers to airlines/travel companies "too good to refuse."

I also think a joint owner would try to rationalise the use of the two airports and use them as complements, and that EXT in percentage terms, if not in actual ones, would get the best of the deal.

BRS is about to break the 5 million annual pax barrier and the management reckons it can handle up to 9 million with an extension of the current terminal and the provision of up to about 30 aircraft stands (it's got around 23 or so at present I believe).

EXT is approaching the 3/4 million barrier and could easily double this in the next 2-3 years, and who is to say what could be achieved beyond that, but always with the rider that the catchment area is not massive.

So there is scope for development of services at both airports and I believe that a joint owner would be a winner in this case, although I am well aware that there are those who say this never works and have quoted examples on this MB in the past.

BTW, I have no connection with BRS airport or the industry. I am a long term regular passenger who is delighted at the way pax services have improved in the south west corner of Britain in the past few years. Being greedy, I have a tremendous choice out of BRS, CWL, EXT, BHX and SOU, with LHR just along the road if I really must, but I haven't for many years now. I prefer the local airports, via hubs such as AMS for long distance travel.

Whatever happens it is an exciting time for air travel in the whole of the south west.

In the absence of a proper ORK service from BRS (apart from RE's attempt) I believe a low cost ORK route would work from EXT. Especially as 6G are cutting back the route from PLH to 4 times a week. Would also like to see route to AMS and twice daily MAN route. All routes operating from both PLH and EXT see far healthier pax loads from EXT and as MAN is a good performer from PLH it should be an excellent performer from EXT particularly as it would be direct and not operate via another airport as most services from PLH do.

Plus, with the amount of diverts EXT gets from Air Southwest from Plymouth and Newquay surely it would make better sense for them just to consolidate their operations at EXT. Exeter is only 45-50 mins from Plymouth so I don't think loads would decrease - plus they would pick up loads from the W.Doreset and Somerset catchment - much more densly populated and easy to get to.

Air Southwest is owned by the owners of PLH, so they won't be moving out.
