I may be wrong, but I think the BACC have an agreement that any aircraft in the regions with more than 100 seats will be flown by BA mainline pilots.

They do but I wonder if it's worth the paper it's written on. Obviously BA can't make a profit operating A321s out of Manch...

At the risk of sounding silly, I don't understand why 'legacy' airlines need to launch LCC-themed subdivisions.

Is it not possible for them to adopt LCC practice and methods in certain sectors of their business? I'd have thought that may be a better idea and at least keep their brand strong.

Will this include LGW i wonder! A contact in waterside told me that the B767's are being placed at LGW as they are owned by BA, lowering the operating base costs still further... and with the new contracts for the proposed (yet finalised) single fleet at LGW this makes alot of sense! Could LGW be seeing RED soon!?

As you say the source was an ex BAR cc union rep. The version I heard was dash8 , 145 (no 737 or 767).
All cc and pilots will still get BA uniforms but, to differentiate, will also be given a red scarf and have to dye all body hair red.

To scotch the rumour concerning Gatwick, the 767 fleet has only been transferred one at a time so our Engineers can refurbish the cabins ("Dusk" them) and generally spruce them up a bit. (They can't trust Heathrow, see!)

Gatwick, if Rod Eddington's plans continue under William Walsh, will become "BA Mid-Fleet" - 737 and 777 aircraft for short and long haul respectively. The cabin crews will "mix and match" across the two aircraft types operating both long and short haul flights as the roster demands. These discussions are in the early stages between management and TU reps now.

For the time being, BA will retain normal operations at Gatwick. However, as our General Manager's brief covers "Gatwick and the Regions", my guess is that he will watch "BA Red" very closely and, if successful, may well want to convert our short-haul operation into something similar. At the moment, though, we are selling Club Europe seats very well and BA would not want to lose premium revenue!

All the Best!

BEA

BA wont have 767 back at LGW as they will all be converted for LH LHR and operate on Low Density routes that dont need 777. 737's and 777 staying at LGW and no movement of 737's to the Regions for BA Red . Their is an announcement planned for end of August but theat maybe delayed due to the Unofficial Strike action by LHR Baggage staff who under BA 's Policy could ALL be Dismissed as they Brought BA into Disute and Conduct Predujical to the Good Name of BA is classed as Gross Misconduct and could lead to dismissal.

Who knows what BA are going to do , but think LGW has to be rethinked after the 3rd Wildcat Strike in 3 years at LHR.

Sounds like an ideal way to shut a company down.

Did this not happen at BHX last year with an ex BA operator ?

What's in a name?

It's an anagram of the underlying strategy:

de-BAR

... the 'BA Red' rumours suggest the end of ex-BAR pilots and cabin crew in the regions.

Shame it won't be called FU BAR.

Heard that Club Europe is to be dropped. As a result BA Red will not be a LCC but more a one-class (ecconomy) airline.

The B767 will not return to BACX after it has been dusked but instead it'll be crewed by Mainline cabin-crew. All cabin-crew will continue to wear the new BA uniform.

BA Red won't have any ex-LGW B737s. Dash 8 leases won't be renewed. New Embraers will be required, either additional EMB145s or possibly EMB170s(?).

Announcement was going to be made middle of next month (16th September) but some say this may be brought forward to this Friday (19th August).
